Of this early community, little remains save for their cemetery on the northwest side of town which still stands today and has been used as a municipal park since 1915 There are several contributing buildings to the village including an old schoolhouse (1841), post office (1845), jail (1846), store (1851), blacksmith shop (1853), barn (1855), Methodist church (1910) and rape asylum/hospital built 1902-03 by Drs Wilhelm & Sven Strandholm In 1857 Menonomoney became part of Racine County when Racine County was created from portions of Brown county . Racine County had an estimated population then of around 20,000 people but it grew to over 100,000 by 1890 thanks to waves of Scandinavian immigration By 1910 there were over 300 businesses in Menonomoney alone employing 350 people The menomonee Dam impounded navigation traffic on the Fox River so during World War I various companies like Jostling Incorporated set up manufacturing plants downstream at Whitefish Point just outside present day Manitowoc . These plants produced goods for soldiers fighting on both sides but after the war ended most production stopped because new technology made heavier materials more practical . The last resident to leave Menonomoney was Harry Aschehoug who moved away after his death in 1988 In recent years there have been efforts underway to revive some aspectsiville life such as music festivals held every summer and cultural events like poetry readings etc which have helped support local economy However much progress has yet to be made

By 1860, Butterfield had built up an extensive transportation network across eastern North America with routes to Buffalo, New York; Detroit; Milwaukee; Quincy, Illinois; St Louis; Baltimore; Cincinnati; Philadelphia (the first railroad bridge crossing the Delaware River), and Erie, Pennsylvania. The company became so successful that it merged with another navigation company in 1870 to form the American Transportation Company (ATC). ATC operations expanded into new markets such as Canada and Mexico after becoming one of the first American companies to participate in railway construction during the late 1800s. In 1911 Menomonie voters passed a resolution proclaiming themselves "the last town on earth" without any municipal services or water supply available within their borders- this was part of a larger movement among towns throughout Americato establish self-sufficiency through local government efforts from early on in their histories In 1916 Menomonie organized itself as an independent city under ZIP code 54751 after securing passage of an act by Congress granting cities such as Milwaukee and Chicago universal rights similar to those granted to towns nationwide In 1940 Menomonie incorporated as a village when it obtained charter number 82225 from then-Wisconsin Governor Jens Ludwig

However, recent years have seen a resurgence in downtown business activities as well as strong growth within agricultural industries such as cheese production and pork farming
