The Menomonee Falls metropolitan area is located in the central section of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The population was 309,815 as of the 2010 census. Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin is a small town located in the Town of Menomonee Falls, Douglas County, Wisconsin. The community was founded in 1854 and named for the Menomonees River which flows through it. It has a population of about 960 people as of the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Menomonee Falls were farmers who arrived from Illinois in 1840. They built their first cabin on the east bank of the Menomonee River. By 1850, they had developed a mill on the west side of the river. The mill facilities were used to produce flour and other goods for local residents and also exported to other towns in southeastern Wisconsin. In 1854, three men from Ohio arrived at Menomonee Falls with prospectors looking for land to settle. They named their new community Menomonee Falls after the falls on the Menomonee River which they saw across the river from their cabin. In 1865, two men from Iowa came to live inMenomonee Falls and began operation of a gristmill that manufactured flour, oats and other goods for local residents and export to other towns in southeastern Wisconsin. The mill was later abandoned but left behind an important piece ofWisconsin history – part of its grinders still stands today! In 1974, when Interstate 80 bypassed Menomonee Falls, most commerce ceased along that stretch due to its lack of access roadage or transportation options outside Milwaukee during winter months (due to ice). However, some businesses did continue operations until around 2000 because there was enough access roadage available once I-80 opened up again! Today much commercial activity takes place online or via mobile devices due to improved travel opportunities available now! The Menomonee Falls area was first settled by the Menomonees in the early 1800s. The community of Menomonee Falls was established in 1821, and it became a small town in 1835. In 1862, Menomonee Falls became a village, and it remained that way until 1955. In 1935, the Village of Menomonee Falls annexed the Town of Easton. The annexation created a new village, which continued to be known as Menomonee Falls until 1959 when it changed its name to Milwaukee.
