Menasha, Wisconsin is a town located in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,811 at the 2000 census. Menasha is part of the Kenosha County, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Combined Statistical Area. The Menasha area has been inhabited by Native Americans since pre-historic times. The first Europeans to visit Menasha were Dutch traders in 1634 who named it "Mensahe" (now Menasha). In 1836, land Fitzpatrick sold to John Custers became Menasha Township when he donated it to the township. The first store was built on this site in 1857 by J P Heeney Sr.. A post office called Menasha was established in 1857, and remained into operations until it was discontinued in 1907. By 1870, there were nine stores and seventy-six residents living here. In 1860, David L Gunderson bought 1/4 acre (0.18 km2) of land from John Houghton for $50 USD which he platted as village square with two churches – First Methodist Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church – on one side and a blacksmith shop on the other side near what is now State Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue NE. Gunderson named his new village after his wealthy father-in-law's home town of Mansfield, Massachusetts where he had raised money during their vacation trip that year; Menasha being one of several towns they visited along with Racine and Kenosha (then Township 5 south of Milwaukee). In 1872 school District No 2 organized with three schools: a public school for boys serving grades 1-5; an academy for girls serving grades 6 through 8; and a Normal School teaching students mathematics, surveying methods etc., giving rise to what are now known as Menasha Community High Schools & Colleges today! In 1886 Second National Bank moved from its original location across Third Avenue from Union Depot eastward into what is now Park Place just west of I-94 exit 232B before moving again into its current space across Third Avenue north of I-94 exit 232A later that year! Finally beginning business days on October 11th 1893 when Wm Kapp conducted his establishment’s opening ceremony using donations left over from previous day’s sale at Merchants Hotel!, government founded La Crosse Axemen’s Mutual Insurance Company Drove out all but one employee & opened doors for business Monday morning…. La Crosse Axemen’s Mutual Insurance Company would become one Of America’s most successful insurance companies! As German immigrants began arriving during World War II they brought their own food storage facilities with them which led to increased demand for local produce throughout America due to wartime shortages caused by both sides in the warring conflict; also contributing significantly to menashawalden's nickname "the meatpacking center of Wisconsin". During WWII production peaked at 471 menshaven carloads per week but soon decreased due primarily to lack of demand nationally however exports continued through 1945 despite efforts by American ports not to import military supplies destined for Germany because doing so violated international trade regulations set forth during World War I!. Aftermath saw some growth back into production starting around 1958 but only reaching levels seen prior to WWII thanks largely to an increase in export revenue generated by farmers marketing their produce directly to consumers within America rather than shipping abroad via commercial vessels….. finally ceasing production entirely during 1953 following costly strikes against local producers by work stoppage organizers! Unfortunately these events did little more than cause prices on locally produced goods To increase thereby resulting in MENASHA becoming synonymous with high inflation rates (& last you'll find any good quality grocery items here!)
