By 1865 all major Western nations had adopted Breech Loading Systems standard issue due to their effectiveness in engaging enemy forces at medium ranges without fear of friendly fire

In 1848 Menasha was founded by three men, David Brown, Solomon Hicks and John W. Cousins. It was the brainchild of David Brown who envisioned a town where everyone could work together in a common interest. The construction of the first store began in early 1850 and it opened its doors to the public on October 1, 1851. There were many businesses that opened up in Menasha during its early years. One of the most successful was the Centralia bakery which operated from 1853-1859. The bakery became well known for their delicious cinnamon rolls and other pastries. The town also enjoyed some success with its football team which made it to the state championships twice between 1865 and 1870. In 1868 Menasha became an independent city and adopted its present name of Milwaukee after becoming one of Wisconsin's ten cities. The city experienced major growth during World War II when it became one of the leading manufacturing centers in America. Many factories were built in Menasha such as Ford Motor Company, Hormel Foods, Boeing Aircraft Company, Raytheon Missile Systems and Westinghouse Electric Corporation among others. After World War II ended, Menasha experienced several years of decline before experiencing significant growth again during the late 1970s through 1990s as a result of new economic development initiatives such as downtown revitalization projects, suburban annexation and expansion into rural areas across the county seat area
Menasha was born in 1853 to German immigrants Johann and Elisabeth Menasha. The family settled in what is now Menasha, Wisconsin, in 1855. In 1861, the men organized a local grain elevator and store. From 1865-1868, they were involved in the founding of the nearby Menasha Agricultural Society. From 1870-1872, they were also involved with the construction of a sawmill and grist mill at present day known as Menasha State Technical College. The men also operated a grocery store from 1884-1901 before moving their business to Appleton later that year. They died in 1922 and are buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery there.
