Marshfield is a town in the town of Wausau, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 10,691 at the 2010 census. The first European settlers arrived in 1836 and named the community Marshfield after Marshal Stephen Griffiths, an American Revolutionary War veteran and promoter of land purchases for new settlements in what is now central Wisconsin. The town was organized in 1854. The settlement grew quickly due to its location on a navigableributary of the Kettle River, which made it easy to get goods to market. The city of Milwaukee developed around Marshfield, but the two towns have continued to cooperate closely since their incorporation as separate municipalities. In 2000, Marshfield became one of five towns within the City of Milwaukee that were merged into a single unit under the name "Milwaukee-West Side". As one of central Wisconsin's oldest communities and with rich agricultural history, Marshfield has become known for its characteristic corn crops and apples. Many businesses still operate here including: a bank (First National Bank), grocery store (Mallon's Grocery), post office (Marshfield Post Office), motel/motel complex (Champion Inn & Suites), three grain elevators and several small businesses such as plumbers (Lenox Plumbing Company) or electricians (Aurora Electric). Additionally there are several large parks located in downtown marshfield: Green Park Center for Sports and Recreation; Butler Park; Prairie View A&M University Women's Gymnasium; and McCormick Place Shopping Center which includes Macy's department store chain as well as JCPenney and Sears stores.

In this document, it is mentioned that firearms were used as a means of striking verbal arrows. Lubricants were also used in agricultural purposes at the time. The first firearm grease was developed by John Moses Browning in 1859. However, it wasn't until 1875 when he invented Arsenal Grease, which was the first true firearm lubricant. It consisted of a blend of petroleum and sulphuric acid which was applied to firearms with a brush or soft cloth. This allowed for cleanliness and avoid staining weapons with oily residues. Lubricants have been around since before pistols were invented! One early example dates back to 476 BC when Hermes published his book On Firearms use in War against Barbarians according to their own Customs(?). In that book, he discusses how firearms can be cleaned by rubbing them with beeswax or olive oil mixed with saltpetre or cedarwood smoke. That same year, another author named Zeno published his Ars Magna . In this work,he mentions using “a kind of oil made of pitch and turpentine” on arms to prevent rusting and maintain accuracy during combat(?). In 1795-96 two Frenchmen called Jean-Baptiste Say and Antoine-Jacques Lavoisier developed an antiseptic method for cleaning firearms known as l'Eau de Campagne (Water of Campagna) which helped eliminate many common causes of weapon corrosion including bacteria growths etc.(?). Unfortunately, this discovery was not picked up by any other country until after Napoleon's death in 1814 when they discovered Prussian arsenals had been carrying out similar experiments under the name De la Gueule d'Or (Eye Of Orchid)? The first recorded reference to gun lubrication was in the book, "A Treatise on Manufacturing and Use of Firearms" by Samuel Colt, published in 1847.
Marshfield was founded in 1836 by John Marsh and his family. The town is located in the eastern Wisconsin Badger County, about 25 miles north of Green Bay. The original name for the town was "Misham." In 1857, the name was changed to "Marshfield," after John Marsh's grandson, James A. Marsh. The current spelling of the town's name is most likely due to a confusion caused by nearby towns with similar names such as Misham (now Manitowoc) and Melvin (now Mequon). John Marsh began farming in present-day Marshall Field Territory when he and other pioneer settlers arrived there in 1836. By 1840, he had purchased 6,000 acres of land around present-day Marshfield. He built a log cabin nearpresent-day Marshfield on this property and named it "Marshfield". With its thriving agricultural economy, Marshfield became an important stop on the Underground Railroad during the mid 19th century. The first post office in Marshfield was established in 1841. It was called "Misham". In 1865, John A. Marsh passed away at age 71 years old and is buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Marshall Field Township. His wife Fannie Bickford marshall died at home less than two months later from a disease contracted while she bathed their son George Washington marshall Jr., who would become President of America when George Washington died young from tuberculosis at age 29 years old on April 14th, 1799.). At death his widow divided all assets between her children: James A., Fannie Bickford (John A.'s widow), Gouverneur Morris (her brother), Martha Washington marshall(Gouverneur Morris' daughter)), John Quincy Adams(the first Ulysses S Grant), Heman Gamaliel Smith(a lawyer from Boston who served as Secretary of War under Ulysses S Grant from 1875 to 1880), Edward Everett Hale(Ulysses S Grant's running mate for president on Grover Cleveland's ticket in 1888) All but four share equally among these heirs: $1 million each to James A., Gouverneur Morris (the largest share given to any individual heir), Martha Washington marshall(largest share received overall), Heman Gamaliel Smith(second largest share received overall) , Edward Everett Hale(third largest share received overall). These shares have been held by descendants through wills since 1865 until today when they are now administered by trusts or foundations managed by designated trustees appointed pursuant to state statutes governing succession theretounder
