Marshfield is a town in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 6,055 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Merrill metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Marshfield were French traders in 1692. The present town was named for Colonel John Marsh of Boston, Massachusetts who donated land to the local school board in 1838. In 1851, it was made a village and in 1893 became a town. In the early 1900s, many farmers began growing corn on their properties that would feed local mills and other businesses near the townsite. Corn production continued until 1962 when all but one farm left the community due to economic competition from more recent arrivals in nearby towns such as La Crosse and Menomonee Falls. Today, many people still live on farms within walking distance of downtown or access to major highways. The downtown area has been renovated several times over the years with popular tourist destinations like The Old Mill Museum (1822), which contains artifacts from pioneer days including tools and clothing used by workers, being open every day except Christmas; The Isaac Newton House (1898), which is a 2-story wooden frame structure built by an early settler; and Pioneer Park (1901) with its well-preserved barns and outbuildings dating back to 1830 are just some of the attractions that make Marshfield one of today's favorite tourist destinations simply because of its unique history!

By 1870, the townsite had grown to encompass present-day Marshfield Village and parts of Unincorporated Touchstone County. In 1902,Marshfield Elementary School was founded and remained open until it closed in 1992; today, part of that school's campus houses the West Allis Museum of History & Heritage. The town has several significant historical events which have left an imprint on its culture including: -In 1836, Colonel George Marsh donated land to the town for development purposes; -The first post office opened in 1837; -In 1846, Samuel Morse built a sawmill in village and became one of the early settlers; -Marshfield Elementary School was founded in 1902 and remains open today; -In 1952, West Allis Municipal Airport opened as an airport within marshfield limits; -And finally, during World War II many local businesses supported military production by manufacturing supplies such as ammunition
Marshfield was founded by the Chippewa tribe in 1836. The town grew rapidly and by 1850, it had a population of around 100 people. In 1865, Marshfield became a city and the first Australian community in the United States.
