Marshfield was first settled by German Americans in the mid 1800s. The town was named for the marshy land near where it was located. The first post office was established in 1867, and the first store opened in 1870. By 1893, Marshfield had a population of about 350 people. In 1907, the town became a city and it has since grown to over 1,000 residents today.
