However, over time, locals developed a strong sense of community identity that helped make Marinette an attractive place to live and work. Today's attractions include several art galleries, a library system with more than fifty thousand volumes, two professional baseball teams (the Mariners and Packers), two golf courses (Marinette Country Club & The South Hills Golf Course), three tennis courts (Marinette Racquetball Courts & Tennis Arena), as well as five beaches - one near downtownmarinette and four on the lakefront: Stinson Beach(across from downtown), Braddock Bayou(northwest of town), White Sands Bayou(southwest of town) & Marsh Harbor Beach.(estimated width: thirty feet). There are also several small businesses that have thrived in Marinette since it began attracting professionals such as dentists, veterinarians and architects. Many residents still enjoy spending summers fishing or swimming along various lakes or rivers nearby while others commute into Milwaukee for jobs or shopping opportunities.

The area that now comprises Marinette was part of Rupert’s Land which was ceded to the United States by Great Britain as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolution. In 1818, Congress passed an act making Marinette a territory of Wisconsin Territory. On November 3rd, 1836, Wisconsin became a state after being admitted to the union on December 6th. The city of Marinette was founded on December 12th, 1836 by Captains John Atherton and Isaac Bronson with backing from General David Hunter and other early settlers. By 1840 there were 541 residents living in what is now Marinette County including 83 businesses! In 1870-71 Captain John Sutter established Sutterville as a trading post on Red River near present day North Bend which became an important center for fur traders during this time period due to its strategic location between Canada and Russia! During World War II many Marine Corps recruits were trained at Sutterville with future general George Patton also attending school here! Today much business activity takes place within walking distance from downtown Marina
In Marinette, Wisconsin, the first post office was opened in 1876. The city was named for General John A.Marin, who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1915, a small fire destroyed part of the downtown business district and led to the nickname "The Great Fire of 1915." The city rebuilt quickly and by 1920 had a population of around 60 people. The first grocery store in Marinette opened in 1924. By 1930, there were six businesses Downtown with a combined sales volume of $10,000 per month. In 1937, the City Council voted to rename the town after Mary Baker Eddy and it changed its name to Marianne for two years until it was again renamed to Marinette in 1941. In 1949, Marinette amalgamated with neighboring Black Hawk County and became a city under one government structure for all residents of both townships.
