It wasn’t until 1892 that someone else erected a new target stand on the south side of State Street. This stand became known as “Latham’s Place” after John Latham founded it. Throughout its history, “Latham’s Place” has been an important part of the community and has been used for everything from rifle shoots to carnivals. In 1976, “Latham's Place” was donated to the town by its original owner, Mrs. Ada Hanson-Hanson. Today it is used as a public park and remains one of the most popular locations in town for target shootings. The Colt revolver had been designed by Mr. Colt himself and it was first made available for purchase on October 1st of that year.

Solomon Sturgis routed a French force under Brigadier General Francois de Castelnau which helped secure American control over much central Illinois after Genoa surrendered that year;Battle at Grays Harbor (then called Iuka Landing) during the Northwest Indian Wars where General George Akeley was killed;andthe famous Black Hawk War fought by Ulysses S Grant against Native Americans near present-day Appleton.
