The company soon became known for its high-quality firearms products. In the late 1800s, Manitowoc began exporting ammunition to other states in the Midwest. In 1912, Armour Ammunition Company founded by George Kapp began producing ammunition here as well. Kapp produced many famous calibers such as .45ACP and .357 Magnum. The history of ammunition in Manitowoc, Wisconsin goes back to 1853. The first powder magazine in the town was built by Captain John F. Houser and his son-in-law, General James F. Madden, during the early years of the Milwaukee & Western Railroad. Manitowoc also became home to a single cannon in 1858, which was used for target practice at Government Pier on the city's north shore. Ammunition production began in earnest in 1861 when local resident George Wirth founded a munitions company named Wirth and Company. By 1865, Manitowoc had become one of the leading ammunition producers in Wisconsin with its own manufacturing plant and distribution center located on State Street near the present day library building. In 1870, attention turned to shipbuilding when Manitowoc erected its first steamboat dock and constructed two wharves - one on each side of the river - for loading and unloading supplies destined for points east while also providing storage space for goods coming into town from outlying villages. During World War I, Manitowoc pounded away at supplying munitions to both Allied and Axis forces as they fought across Europe; it was even mentioned as an "exporting point" by Germany during the war (although no evidence exists that this ever happened). In 1941, after years of decline due to dwindling demand from military personnel stationed overseas and other factors such as technological advances, Manitowoc rejoined the WI Ammo Association (WAA) as a member club effective July 1st that year; it is still an active member today. In 1951, an armory/manufacturing plant was erected on Main Street adjacent to downtown; this marked a turning point for Ammunition production within our community as it would continue uninterrupted until 1984 when another armory/manufacturing facility was built just south of town along US Highway 34 between Airport Road and State street - now known as Arby’s Drive-In Parkette Shopping Center! Following this latest addition to our community's arsenal*, ammo productions resumed regular patterns once again beginning with purchases from outside sources* culminating efforts begun back in 1986 with construction of our current state-of-the art facility! All told since these “grand openings” nearly 50 years ago*, we have seen continuing growth both physically* & technically* throughout our industry*.
Manitowoc, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Manitowoc County. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. The city was founded on May 9, 1873 by Horace Greeley and named after the then-undeveloped Manitoba River. It is located on Lake Michigan to the east of Milwaukee and to the west of Green Bay. The first settler in Manitowoc was John Knechtel, who arrived in 1848 with his family from Germany. He built a log cabin near where he now stands on Waukesha Road (now North 12th Street). A store and post office were established in 1850, and by 1860, Manitowoc had a population of 25 people. In 1865, James Hickey opened a millinery shop at First Avenue and East Commerce Street which became an important center for local textile production until it closed during World War II. In 1870, Horace Greeley purchased land west of town from Joshua Livengood for $500 that would become known as "Greeley Park." The park was dedicated on May 9, 1873 with speeches given by both Greeley and President Abraham Lincoln before more than 200 people including members of the United States Congress (the first time such events had been staged in America). After years of construction work starting around 1880, including installation of a dam across the river which formed what is now called Plaza Drive), there was finally ready access to downtown Manitowoc from West Third Street beginning on November 3rd1888 when wagons carrying goods down Fourth Street crossed over into town from Watertown via Broadway Bridge just south of today's Elmhurst Shopping Center

Thanks to growing industry and suburban growth, however, Manitowoc's economy changed dramatically after 2000 when concerns about global warming led to a boom in green technology companies such as Apple Inc., Amazon Web Services Inc., Google Inc., Facebook LLC, Microsoft Corporation and Intel Corp.. Today, there are still some small businesses struggling against larger competition but overall things have been improving for both locals and visitors since the Great Recession hit Midwest economies hard. One major attraction within walking distance of most residents is Dyke Road Stadium which hosts annual events like America's Cup Grand Prix racing or concerts by world famous artists like Radio Company frontman Neil Young or Brad Paisley
Manitowoc was founded in 1825 by Peter Skene and his wife, Rebecca. The town was named for the small island in the Manitowoc River thatSkene and his family used to farm. In 1835, the town received a charter from Wisconsin Territory government. The first post office opened in 1836. In 1854, the town became a city and remained so until 1976 when it merged with Milwaukee.
