When Little Chute, Wisconsin was incorporated in 1871, most of its residents were farmers. As the town grew, so did the need for a way to identify handguns and other firearms. A group of businessmen pooled their money and purchased a sawmill that they used to make barrels for handguns. One of the first pistols made in Little Chute was a Smith & Wesson Model 3 revolver. In 1927, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department began using 6-inch (15 cm) gunlights to guide deputies during gunfire suppression operations. These lights were originally purchased by county deputies as part of their equipment. The 6-inch gunlights were replaced by 8-inch (20 cm) lights in 1967 and then by 10-inch (25 cm) gunsights in 1984. Today, Little Chute has a Gun LIGHT museum where people can learn about all things related to firearms! Little Chute, Wisconsin is a small town in the Ozaukee County of Wisconsin. The community was founded in 1857 and named for the Little Chute River. It has a population of about 1,500 people as of the 2010 census. The first settler in Little Chute was John Wickersham who built a cabin on the now-demolished site of his original farm in 1857. Other early settlers included Prentice Godfrey and James Davenport. A post office was established at Little Chute in 1858, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1865, James Hargrave opened a general store at the junction of State Highway 6 and Route 54 near what is now the Big Chute Dam. In 1888, local resident Fenton Minton donated land to build a school which became known as Little Chute School District No. 1 (later Ozaukee County Schools). The first school building was completed in 1889 and served students from kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1915, an addition to the school district's main building were constructed additional classrooms and offices which remain today as part of Park Place Elementary Schools located across from County Hall on Main Street in Little Chute. The early years of this school board were difficult due to competition from other schools within the district which saw their enrollment grow by more than 20%. In 1923, when Ozaukee County united with neighboring Iowa to form Des Moines County, much effort was made to merge all seven districts into one entity; however, due to opposition by some residents who felt their hometown should continue its own identity separate from those around it, only Park Place Elementary School remained intact within the new county boundaries while buildings adjacent thereto were sold or demolished.. This decision effectively ended education opportunities for most residents of Little Chute prior to World War II when many young men enlisted or traveled away to fight during that conflict; however, after war service began returning home there increased demand for jobs and new housing so classes resumed at Park Place Elementary School followed by other nearby schools as well as Des Moines High School where classes continued after high schoolers left for military service ; finally serving children up through twelfth grade until Heckman Intermediate/ Junior High closed down circa 1972 when South Side Middle Academy took its place makingLittleChUTEthelastschoolinOzaukeeCountyto closedown
In 1872, a group of investors led by Deacon John Mellencamp bought the little village of Little Chute from the local Indian tribe. The town was named after the small stream that ran through it. Over time, Little Chute grew to be a busy and thriving community with several mills, churches, and schools. In 1914, Little Chute became part of the new town of Germantown when it was established nearby.
