Since La Crosse, Wisconsin became a city in 1836, it has been home to one of the most important red dot sight history museums in the United States. The Red Dot Museum is located at 608 S. Kinnickinnic Avenue and consists of more than thirty-five thousand items from over two hundred years of Rifle shooting history. The museum was established in 1984 by members of the La Crosse Rifle Club and today preserves and interprets rifle shooting as a whole. It is open to the public from Monday through Saturday 9am to 4pm and also offers educational programs on various aspects of rifle Shooting including safety, reloading, target shooting, NRA courses, and more. In addition to its collection of rifles, ammunition and accessories related to Rifle Shooting, the Red Dot Museum also has a Display Hall that features replica firearms from both American (1860s-1920s) and European (19th century) eras. This hall is open daily 10am to 5pm except for Thanksgiving Day which falls on Tuesday. Admission is free for all visitors! On Wednesday nights during October/November the museum hosts an event called “Rifle Night” where guests can enjoy live music while exploring their exhibit floor at 6pm local time!
