A group of men led by John Fetterman built a rifle range east of town and began shooting at targets in an area that is now known as Fetterman Park. By 1875, La Crosse had become a popular tourist spot for shooters across America because it was one of the few places where you could find rifles without needing a license or waiting months for delivery from England. In 1888, German immigrant Emil Kapp founded the company Kapp Arms & Ammunition Company with his brother Fritz in La Crosse. The company produced replica guns and ammunition until 1916 when it merged with Browning Armory Corporation to form Browning Firearms Corporation (BFC). BFC became one of the largest firearm manufacturers in America before folding in 1970 due to financial difficulties following World War II when production rates plummeted due to rationing. In 1978, local entrepreneurs Dan Noyes and Rick Steinmetz founded Eagle Eye Enterprises Incorporated (EEI) after buying BFC's licenses for making clothing promoting firearms products within Wisconsin boundaries only. At its peak, EEI made more than 100 million items marketing handguns and shotguns throughout Wisconsin including t-shirts reading "Wisconsin Shooters Association", "Gun Show/Open Range Days", "Badger Hunting/ Rifle Shooting", "Firearms Retailer Newsletter" etc.. Eagle Eye survived several bankruptcycies before finally closing shop in 2002 amidst allegations of trading weapons without registering them with state authorities or divulging any information about customer’s sales patterns or useage data.[1] However, some traces of Eagle Eye can still be found today among “gun store employees” who peddle Second Amendment merchandise at local retail stores across Wisconsin under different names such as Smith & Wesson Firearms Sales Co., Inc., Western Armory Manufacturing Corp., etc...[2][3]

In 1892 the rifle and pistol clubs were consolidated into a single organization, the La Crosse Rifle and Pistol Association. In 1907 the association changed its name to the Wisconsin Rifle and Pistol Association. In 1959 the Wisconsin Rifle and Pistol Assn became part of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which is now known as National Shooting Sports Federation.
