By 2200 BC there were smoking arrows carved out of hornblende shale in Jericho[1] which could travel up to 100 m before hitting its target[2]. The first crossbow bolts appeared in China around 1000 BC[3], likely developed during the Tang Dynasty after Chuang Tzu wrote about crossbows in his book The Art of War (6th century BC). Crossbows eventually fell out of favor due to their slow speed and limited range compared to firearms; however, this did not stop them from being continued as military equipment into modern times.[4] A crossbow bolt fired from a firearm can travel up to 400 meters before hitting its target,[5] making it much more powerful than any arrow ever crafted before! Furthermore, there was significant development in composite materials during this time period which allowed for lightweight firearms based on metal alloys instead of wooden construction[6]. This progress led directly to today’s rifles and shotguns – two mainstay weapons used by soldiers across all industries! In addition, projectiles such as rockets or grenades have been fire at high altitudes without resulting in collateral damage by using trajectories that avoid buildings or other large objects
