Upon reaching Racine Station they burned all but two miles of their way before arriving at camp that evening; this event became known as “The Mottimore Incident” A post office called Racine had been established in March 1852 by Wm Poolman with Airstrip No. 1 being built on July 13th 1860 On November 17th 1860 Joseph Fenton opened a store at corner First Street and Main Avenue in what is now downtown Kenosha
