Kenosha, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. At the 2010 census, its population was 40,926. The Kenosha metropolitan area had a population of 102,545 at the 2010 census. The town is located in the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Eau Claire Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settlers in what is now Kenosha were farmers who arrived in 1837 and 1838. They named their settlement after John Keno, an American Revolutionary War soldier and leader of the Patriot side (in what is now Illinois). In 1856, they built a sawmill on the rapids near present-day Koshkononeta Lake toexport logs from their farmlands into Milwaukee County for building materials and other needs within their own community. By 1870, they had also developed a millinery industry with mills producing gloves and hats for local merchants and government officials as well as exported products such as silkthreaders to Europe. In 1901, when Milwaukee became part of Wisconsin Territory No., Kenosha became its second municipality after Wausau but without voting rights until 1912 when it joined as one of two towns in Racine County with voting privileges under Territorial Act No. 277 (the others being Galesburg). Incorporated on November 1, 1912 under charter number 9704 from Racine County Circuit Court Judge Halsey Pritchard (1850-1924), it soon enjoyed widespread growth due to its central location—just east of downtown Milwaukee—and easy access to transportation including railroads which linked it with Chicago and other northwest cities; this made Kenosha one of the most rapidly growing municipalities in school district boundaries during that time period. During World War II there was significant growth due to wartime production by munitions manufacturers across southeastern Wisconsin; businesses like Toolik Rubberworks manufactured tens of thousands of rubber parts for military use including tanks and aircraft tires before America entered the war Afterward there was continuing growth spurred by waves of new immigrants arriving during the late 1960s through early 1970s especially those coming via boat or airplane from eastern European countries such as Czechoslovakia and Hungary.; these newcomers brought not just skills but also social stability and began contributing to economic development both inside and outsideKenosha; eventually resulting in an explosion in housing prices throughout much agricultural land surrounding Koshkoneta Lake making it one of America's most expensive communities for home ownership even though rapid job growth has kept average prices low over recent years Despite all this progress over many years there have been occasional civic protests against high housing prices or specific zoning changes that would allow more high rises or shopping malls within reach while neglecting much smaller villages around KoshkonetaLake thereby reducing opportunity for people living here East Side West Side

One reason why this village developed such strong industry ties is its location close to water resources: two miles from both Chicago's Eastern and Western docks,[6] lead ore came downriver via boatloads from Mount Tom,[7] nickel ore was mined nearby at Menomonee Falls,[8][9][10] and steel production began on what is now known as White Castle Drive (N-87) just south of Kenosha Boulevard (W-94).[11][12][13][14] After World War II, when many manufacturing plants closed down due to automation, heavy industries continued to operate here until they all left during the late 1990s when technological advances made it possible for new businesses to open up without leaving their footprints behind[15], driving much economic development since then includingKEENOSHA FESTIVAL - A NONPROFIT EVENTS AND COMMUNITY PARTY TO SUPPORT LOCAL MUSICIANS
