Kaukauna is a small town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago– Milwaukee–Stout Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Kaukauna were French traders and missionaries in 1636 and 1637. The founding date of the community is unknown but it likely occurred before 1772 when Samuel de Champlain arrived in what is now Waukesha County. Kaukauna became a village on July 10, 1847 and was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1852. The original name for Kaukauna Creek was "Creekville." In 1857, a post office called "Kaukauna" was established and remained in operation until it was discontinued on December 14, 1907. On May 12, 1862 – during the American Civil War – Union soldiers burned down the home of John Derryberry in what is now Kaukauna Township. Derryberry had been arrested for treason for refusing to join Confederate forces during the war. On October 21st of that year - also during the Civil War - Union soldiers burned down two homes near present day Hauppauge after raiding them for cattle belonging to General Lee’s army. One resident at that time reported that “the whole neighborhood seemed upon fire from house to house; there seemed not an inhabitant left untouched” The burning of these homes caused great public indignation and led to new regulations being put into place by local authorities as to who could build where and when fires could be set within their township limits- a regulation still in effect today among some municipalities across America! Following World War I (1914-18), Kaukauna saw its heyday with many businesses opening up including several banks which remain extant today including First National Bank & Trust Company (now Wells Fargo) which opened its doors on Main Street on September 4th 1915; then followed by State Savings Bank & Trust Company (now Jardine Hargrave LLP) which opened its doors on Depot Avenue just west of First Street on January 2nd 1916; finally Smith's Drug Store (later Sears) opened up along Depot Avenue west of First Street on November 12th 1917! All three institutions are still extant within their current locations today! In addition, many farmers began moving from rural areas into towns because they found good prices for fertilizer around here due to good water quality! As word spread about this good pricing environment and how easy it was to get ahead financially given his/her newly developed townhome or farmsteads - more people moved into Kaukuana each year through 1920!! Some notable figures associated with Kaukuana over this time include: Mayor Harry Heineman who served continuously until his death in 1984; Mrs.[Alice] Kappenfuss who resided here until her death in 2005; Dr.[Everett L.] Schmidt who lived here until his death in 2006;[John C.] Jenkins who served as Mayor from 1988-1991 while also holding various other offices such as Deputy Sheriff and Chief Judge Advocate General with Headquarters located right next door at City Hall prior thereto;[Willie] Weigel whose family has resided here since 1944 while also owning numerous businesses throughout this century including Buttermilk Pie restaurant which has been open since 1951 adjacent to City Hall across Depot Ave from Mr./Ms.' garage currently housing our company museum inside

Kaukauna, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Kaukauna is located in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin. The town was founded by Danish immigrants in 1854 and named for their original land grant, Kaukauna Fjordlandet. The first white settler in Kaukauna was Jens Christensen who arrived with his family from Denmark in 1854. He built a cabin on the edge of what is now known as "Old Town". In 1855, he married Marie Gundersen and together they started a farm west of present-day Haugen Lake. By 1860, they had four children: Peder (1856-1937), Mette (1858-1953), Ole (1860-1926) and Karen (1862-1945). Jens Christensen died young at age 41 from cholera pandemic fever which swept through Denmark during that year; his wife and two children survived him however Mette lost her mother to the disease shortly thereafter. After Jens' death, Mette took over running the farm while her father looked after it until his death in 1865 when Peder became manager of the farmstead and continued to do so until he retirement in 1937. Peder Rasmussen started farming on what became known as "Old Town" about 1840 when he migrated from Sønderborg County to start a new life on an open meadow west of present day Haugen Lake near where Old Town now stands. He sowed corn and beans early on but soon realized that these crops were not very successful so he switched to wheat which did well both during warm years and cold years according to local legend.. Over time many other families followed suit including Rasmussens descendants who still live there today along with several other buildings associated with early Kaukauna settlers such as the Rasmussen Cabin, Larsen Chapel, Hansen Farmhouse & Store house etcetera Today all this property forms part of Historic Kaukauna village boundaries
Kaukauna was first settled by the Menominee in 1778. The town began to grow rapidly after the opening of the Wisconsin Territory in 1836. Kaukauna became a city in 1892 and has since experienced significant growth. Today, Kaukauna is a thriving community with a variety of businesses and cultural attractions.
