Janesville, Wisconsin is a town of over 100,000 people located in the rural area of southwestern Wisconsin. The population is larger than any other city in Walworth County and it is one of the most affluent communities in the state. The town was founded by Germans who came to America in 1847. The first school opened its doors in 1853 and until recently, Janesville had been an agricultural community with a small manufacturing sector. But since the 1970s, Janesville has become a center for shooting sports and shooters have taken up residence throughout the community. Janesville is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Mississippi River in the Janesville-Waukesha County community of Janesville. The population was 23,834 at the 2010 census. The first European settlers in what is now Janesville were French Canadians who arrived by ship from Canada in 1836 and named their new town after Jean-Baptiste Chasseur, Sieur de la Halle, one of the generals during the War of 1812. The first post office was established in 1837, and it became a town on January 1, 1847. In 1870, trading posts were founded along the river by Danish traders and ranchers looking for land to farm near Chicago. One such post office was established at present day Janesville with a population of 10 people. A wagon road connecting this post office with Milwaukee was built and opened to traffic in December 1870. In 1872, railroads reached Janesville with construction beginning on the Milwaukee Road which linked Milwaukee with points north and eastward including Chicago and Minneapolis; this made Janesville an important trade center for farmers who had to move goods upriver to be shipped out to markets when necessary. As railroad transportation grew more reliable and efficient, so did trade between these two cities; by 1898 there were over 100 businesses operating within blocks of downtownJanesville without ever having to leave its boundaries! By 1903 Downtown had become home to several banks (the State Bank being built as part of North First National Bank), three theaters (the Masonic Temple being built before competition killed it off), several churches (both Baptist/ Methodist chapels replaced existing mission churches), two schools (one high school operated until 1955 while another continued operations until 1974), a park containing baseball diamonds ambulatory water features designed by Isadore Heckscher (now known as Heckscher Park) as well as various shops selling all sorts of items related to agriculture like feeder wagons and manure spreaders etc., five hotels totaling 54 rooms including 24 cottages (!), ten grocery stores serving 4500 customers each plus six laundromats running 7 days per week! It wasn’t until 1912 that electric streetcars began service throughout downtownJanesville providing an easier way for residents access essential services like electricity, heat, water & trash collection not available previously via walk or bus routes! Electric streetcar service ended completely in 1956 but some leading citizens decided instead to build a new city hall which still stands today making it one of only two buildings left standing from that era! This building is also significant because it served as both City Hall & municipal government offices until 1975 when they moved into their current location across Broadway from City Hall!) A local ordinance passed on November 2nd 1915 provided funds for damming up Kinnickinnic Creek resulting in what is now known as “Lake Michigan” being formed just south of current day Janesville! The town received $1 million dollars from this donation which helped fund many extensions & improvements such as: Schoening Dam ($15 million) completed 1925; Big Twin Dam ($27 million) completed 1938; Menominee Dam ($41 million) completed 1951; Wabash Bridge over Kinnickinnic Creek(completed 1960) – funded largely through federal assistance program under President Franklin D Roosevelt! Today much remains unchanged from those early years other than larger families now living closer together often clustering around schools or parks rather then waiting hours+fn4for buses back into their neighborhoods

Janesville is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 10,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first settlers in Janesville were Peter and Paul Minnery who came to what is now Janesville in 1836 from Fonseca Township, New York. They erected a log cabin on the present site of the Town Hall on the north side of the river in 1837. In 1840, John Prentice built a small house near where he currently lives on State Street. In 1851, Isaac Hull settled around the corner from where Prentice lived on State Street and built a two-story frame dwelling which still stands today. In 1865, Thomas Dyson platted and named Janesville after his father General David Dyson who had commanded an American brigade during the Mexican War. In 1870 Wm Halsey donated land to build a public square or "green" between First and Second Streets east of Commercial Avenue. The town plat was filed April 15, 1870 with James Fenton as surveyor; it consisted of 17 blocks including four lots owned by Samuel Morse which formed East Market Square - now home to City Hall and several other buildings adjoining it - along with 350 acres (160 hectares) of further land that would eventually become known as West Side Square or simply "Square". The village/town boundaries were redrawn in 1871 when voters approved an ordinance changing all municipal boundaries within precincts into wards so that each ward could have an equal number of representatives in the Village Council (later called Districts). The new wards became effective January 1, 1872 when all municipal government shifted from decentralized local governance to centralized state government under Act No.(24) 992 legislature Cong., 2d Session chaptered Dec 11th [1871]). On November 5th [1872], Abraham Lincoln was elected President; soon afterwards Henry Clay announced his candidacy for Ulysses S Grant's old seat on Congress at Washington D C . On December 12th [1872], Lincoln won easily against Grant's challenger: Alpheus Peterson (D). From then until 1893 there were no more presidential elections due to national Reconstruction policies set by Republican Governor George Romney (). However, because federal funding for education at all levels remained available until 1965 through Race Relations Education Act Of 1964 Janesville acquired its first high school diploma holder since 1865 when Julius Rosenwald Jr gifted $5 per student annually to Janesville High School Election Board (). That same year JHHS opened its doors to students grades nine through twelve with Mrs Jane Addams serving as Superintendent since 1933...In 1912 Abraham Lincoln died suddenly at Ford’s Theater just one day shy of his 80th birthday celebrations...Governor Romney issued Order No.(9) 717 dated February 4th 1909 ordering township trustees not to award any scholarships without 50% vote by residents乃至 conditionally receiving such funds from state Legislature...Gov't later made permanent donation backdated Nov 30 th 1899 amounting to $10,...After Gov't order expired Oct 21st 1913 scholarship money continued being awarded but thru board established by Mayor Edward M Sauer As late as 1923 over 60%[of] teachers employed in schools within municipality received salary plus benefits & gratuities…In 1927 only 20%(of] teachers employed within municipality received salary only & benefits…Between 1929-1935 tuition rates increased 50%. Thereafter tuition rates frozen even though state appropriations decreased causing teacher layoffs etc.— resulting ultimately “a great depression”—despite protests by parents….From 1935-1960 enrollment increased almost 400%. During these years janitorial services increased 100%. By 1960 janitors represented 25%(of] total employees—still relatively low compared to other municipalities.— however this percentage has gradually grown over time….Today janitorial services represent approximately 60%(of) total employee work force….Since 1990 tuition rates have not increased while state appropriations have continuously decreased…..Today’s janitorial service provides essential basic needs for our community including safe housing for students and staff…..Since 1978 nearly every Janesville resident has access to dental care……today’s architecture reflects many changes brought about due largelyto advances technology & globalization
Janesville was founded in 1834 by John F. Capps and his brother, James W. Capps. It was named for George Washington Carver, the first white settler in the area. The village grew rapidly due to its location near a major new transportation route, the Milwaukee Road. In 1868, Janesville became the capital of Wisconsin and it remained so until that state's secession from the Union in 1861. The city had a population of over 150,000 by 1900 and it continued to grow through World War II until its decline following the war. In 1965, Janesville became an incorporated municipality with a population of just over 30,000.
