Janesville is a town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 18,828 at the 2010 census. The Janesville-Waukesha County Airport is located in the town. The first permanent residents of what is now Janesville were citizens of Dunkirk, New York in 1837. A post office called Janesville was established in 1839, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1862, the Union troops under General George Buford burned down the village of nearby Easton because its citizens had refused to surrender their munitions to General Ulysses S. Grant's forces during the American Civil War. This event helped to start the current downtown area that exists today. The present school district was formed on January 1, 1907 when parts of Waukesha and Milwaukee counties were unified as one district under state law (). The original name for the new school district was "Wausaukee School District No. 2". In 1945, a group of janitors from schools within Wausaukee School District No. 2 decided to form their own union so they could better bargain with their employers (then called " municipality ". On July 4th 1946, that group presented a petition signed by every janitor in Wausaukee School District No. 2 to then-Governor James Kiefer asking him to create an education board which would manage all public schools within our district). He accepted and on July 6th 1946 created the first Education Board in Dane County (& eventually most of Wisconsin). At that time there were only 3 high school districts (Marquette/Milwaukee/Wausaukee) & 21 elementary schools statewide! It wasn't until 1968 when all but one high school & one elementary school became part of then newly created Janesville-Waukesha County High School District #1! That change meant that students from those two predecessor districts could now attend either our junior or senior high school functions! In 2007 we merged into then newly created Janesville-Waukesha Senior High School District #2! We’re still here today – Thank You Governor Kiefer for his vision!

The Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 banned all semi-automatic pistols with four or more barrels that could be fired rapidly from outside the pistol grip into any direction including downrange, making them illegal for civilian ownership. Federal dietary regulations also outlaws eating food that would give someone exposure to pepper spray or nerve agent agents.

Janesville is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Janesville County. The population was 33,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Janesville" comes from an Anglo-Saxon word meaning place where wheat groweth (a reference to early European settlers). The first known permanent settlement in what is now Janesville was made by German immigrants in 1834 as a farmstead on the west bank of the Menominee River. A school and general store were built there in 1836, and a post office was established in 1840. In 1851, John Fenton became Janesville's first mayor. The town was named for General George Washington Carver, who had donated land to make it a town site. In 1857, Janesville became part of Racine County when it was formed from parts of Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. When Racine County merged with Kane County in 1912, Janesville joined that county as well, becoming its second largest city after Chicago. In 1932, Janesville amalgamated with Wausau to form the present-day WI Rapids metropolitan area which included much of southern Wisconsin including most of Racine and Manitowoc counties as well as eastern Dane County
On the afternoon of December 12, 1858, a group of men and boys were playing on the banks of the Menominee River when they discovered what they thought was a large animal. After further exploration, they realized it was only a small boy's rabbit. The excitement that ensued led to an early morning hunt that yielded many rabbits. On December 15, 1858, one man shot and killed a rabbit in Janesville.
