On October 5, 1840, Edwin Jerauld became the first postmaster after opening a new building at 555 Main Street In 1861, when the Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed which allowed slavery to be spread westward through Nebraska Territory under certain conditions - including that free people living west of Iowa should move to Nebraska to avoid being taken into slavery - Hudsons residents voted to become part of Nebraska Territory instead. They were re-elected onto their town council on January 3 following a referendum held that same year but their township status was revoked on February 12 due to lack of representation on the territorial government On July 2nd 1870, voters in Hudson approved chartering a new Village Government which would provide more services such as fire protection and public education while still keeping control over local finances The original Town Hall located at 570 Main Street burned down in 1944 but reconstruction began immediately and ended just weeks later when World War II ended A new Town Hall was built at 620 Main Street between 1951 and 1954 which served until 1975 when it burned down again In 1978 a third Town HallBuilding replaced both earlier buildings after they were destroyed by arson . This building has since been renovated and houses many different businesses currently including AARPWisconsin . In 2006 plans were put together for another renovation project that would include adding more floor space for businesses with hopes that it might bring back business activity to this once thriving community
