One early reference to target holders can be found in a deed from 1856 when Ishmael J. Pohl sold land at what is now 9th Street and State Road 6 in Hudson to James C. Hofer. The purchase included two shotguns, six rounds each for each gun, three targets, four shooting posts (or “target bags”), five pistols, and other equipment necessary for shooting at targets. In 1877, John Wessel bought land adjoining Pohl’s property east of 9th Street andState Road 6. This site became known as the Wessel Site due to its location near water obstacles that prevented people from shooting at targets on the riverbank. In addition to target holders, Wessel also built a house on the site which served as his home until his death in 1906. Hudson is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 9,912 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in Racine County, and it is also the county seat of Racine County. Hudson was organized as a village on January 1, 1836, by organizers from Racine and other nearby villages who desired to form a new county that would include all of those villages. On February 2, 1836, Hudsons first meeting was held and it elected commissioners to set up government for the new county. The first plat for Hudson was filed on March 6, 1836 and named "Inwood". On December 8, 1840, Edwin Heston removed all Native American materials from what is now downtown Hudson and dedicated it as "Pioneer Park" in memory of his father-in-law John Prentice (1796-1865). Pioneer Park served as an agricultural center until after World War II when its land became urban development with many factories and housing developments around it. In recent years much of Pioneer Park has been restored to its original condition while some parts have been developed into apartments or commercial areas such as the old Masonic Hall building which can be seen across I-94 northbound off exit 218A in downtown Hudson

Hudson, Wisconsin was named in honor of John Hudson, a signer of the United States Constitution. The town was established in 1836, and is located on the Mississippi River. In 1862, it was the site of one of the most significant battles in American history when Confederate forces attacked Union troops at Battle of Gettysburg. The battle resulted in more than 50,000 casualties and ended with Union victory. Today, Hudson is a small community located just east of Milwaukee on the north bank of the river. The town began as a farming community and grew rapidly after land sales by John Denton in 1836. By 1840, Hudson had a population of over 100 people and two stores. A sawmill was built that year and became one of the largest in Wisconsin. The town also developed an agricultural sector which produced hay, corn, beans, potatoes and other vegetables for local markets. In 1848-49, Hudson participated in a series of fairs organized by Agent Farias to promote trade with Great Lakes states. These events helped develop relationships between Wisconsin farmers and traders from Illinois and Michigan. In 1849-50, John Denton developed what is now known as "Denton’s Landing" on the west side of the river near present day home plate at Waukesha County Stadium
Hudson was founded in 1836 by Ludwig Von Steuben as the first town on the river. The community grew rapidly due to its location and natural resources, which made it a popular spot for lumber and agricultural businesses. In 1870, the city of Hudson fusion with the adjacent town of Morris to form the new municipality of Hudson-Morris. The merger helped increase population and economy while creating more social programs and services for residents. By 1960, Hudson had reached its peak population size with over 100,000 people living in downtown streets and buildings. However, rapid economic decline throughout the early 21st century caused many businesses to close or move out of town as well as reduce employment opportunities in the area. Today, Hudson is a small community with few residents remaining on Main Street.
