Hudson, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 7,836 at the 2010 census, making it the second-most populous municipality in outstate Milwaukee County after Milwaukee. Hudson is located in the southern portion of the county and is bordered by Racine to the north, Winona to the east, Sheboygan County to the south, and Ozaukee County to the west. The town's name comes from John Hudson who settled there in 1837. The first settler in what would become Hudson was Nicholas Vail who arrived in 1793 and claimed land along with others on July 6th, 1793 as part of Treaty of Paris between France and Great Britain following their War for Independence. In 1837 when John Hudsons Colony was founded he donated land near his original home which later became known as Hudson Park. The town began as a small farming community with just over 50 residents by 1850 when it annexed neighboring towns Racine and Winona..As early as 1857 one account said that "the present site of [Hudson] originated where a large body of water lay upon some high ground adjoining Waukesha township." In 1865 when Manitowoc Township was organized it included much of present day Hudson including most of what is now downtown and portions of both Racine and Winona Townships. At that time all but 2% (of its current population) lived within 1 mile (1 km) or less of any job market relevant activity; today only a very few blocks away lies most urban employment potential according to data from UW-Milwaukee’s Economic Development Center
