Hudson, Wisconsin is a small town located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Hudson is part of the Green Bay–St Paul metropolitan area and is considered to be a bedroom community for Green Bay and its surrounding counties. The name originated from Dutch settlers who named their township "Hudson". The first known settler in what is now Hudson was Abram De Valk, who arrived in 1795. He built a cabin on the banks of the Menominee River and founded an agricultural village there called De Valk's Mills. In 1836, Isaac Babcock erected a log courthouse and jail in what is now downtown Hudson, which served as the judicial center for all of Milwaukee County until 1868 when that jurisdiction was divided among five other counties (Waukesha, Aprilia, Racine, Kenosha, and Oconomowoc). In 1870, John Fenton bought 640 acres (2 km²) of land at present-day Hudson Falls Drive and developed it into what is today downtown Hudson with his hotel/motel business known as The Fenton House Hotel & Casino. In 1927 he donated 350 acres (15 km²) of his property to the city of Green Bay for use as a parkland setting off from State Highway 20 which runs through town center. Today this parkland includes much of downtown Hudson as well as several blocks east along State Highway 20 between Wabasha Street and First Street North. In 1969-1970 arson destroyed most of northeast Building 5 at 6th & Maple Streets in downtown Hudson; only about 10% remain standing today due to weathering and vandalism.(1) In 1984-1985 local resident Dick Badger started construction on what are now two new buildings on Main Street near State Highway 20 - one building housed the library while another served as Goodwill store until it closed in 2006.(2) These two buildings are also significant landmarks because they were both designed by architect Don Liles after he had been commissioned by then-Mayor John Doe to design new public works facilities within city limits.(3) It wasn't until 2001 that developers Bill Kappenberg and Curt Weiland brought plans for development overstate onto town square just south of First Avenue North where they created threeplexes totaling 875 feet (244 m), including 506 feet (165 m) of mall space on 15 stories with 5 millionsquare feet (460 000 sq ft) total floor area(4)(5). This project forms one block east along State Highway 20 between Wabasha Street and First Street North adjacent to The Gilded Cage steakhouse/barbeque restaurant which opened its doors in late 2002.(6)(7). Atrium spaces will contain office space facing out onto First Avenue North while residential units will occupy lower levels around a large courtyard providing open air living spaces overlooking First AvenueNorth(8).

The first post office in the town was established on November 5, 1836. The town of Hudson grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 500 people. In 1840, the state of Wisconsin granted Hudson an alley to be built through town for water transportation; this helped to increase the population even more. In 1851, the city of Milwaukee began to grow nearby and annexed much of what is now Hudson; as a result, Hudsons population became only slightly smaller than that of Milwaukee. In 1865, when Milwaukee merged with its neighbor to the south, Racine (now Waukesha), Hudson's status as a separate municipality declined somewhat. However, it continued to exist as an independent community until it merged with Racine again in 1907.
