Hudson, Wisconsin is a small town located in the Fox River Valley of southern Wisconsin. The community was founded in 1871 by Luther Hodges and his wife Anna. The name originated from the nearby Hudson's Bay Company post office, which was first called Hudsonville. In 1905, the post office was renamed Hudson and changed its zip code to 54941. The population of Hudson peaked at 1,848 in 1930 but has declined since then. The history of guns in Hudson began with early settlers who were interested in acquiring firearms for hunting and protection against Native Americans. By 1851, there were at least 12 gun shops operating in the community. Gun barrels were also purchased and sold here until World War II when handguns became more popular. However, the first actual firefights took place on October 20th of 1847 when a group of men from the town decided to venture out onto the open prairie to hunt buffalo. The fight lasted for hours and resulted in one man being killed and four others being wounded.

In 1785, when Englishman John James Audubon visited this area, he noted that there was no water here other than the Menominee River which he called "the great falls". Hudson grew up around these falls because it was convenient to get water from them. In 1835, General David Dixon established a military post at Hudson which became known as Fort Dodge. This fort served as a base for American forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). After that war ended, Fort Dodge served as an Indian reservation center until it was abandoned in 1871. In 1881, two brothers named Augustus Severance and George Severance founded a grocery store on State Street in Hudson which became one of the most successful grocery stores in Wisconsin history. The Severance family operated their store until 1965 when it closed due to competition from larger stores then exists today. It wasn't until 1955 when Interstate 94 was built through central Wisconsin that Hudsons growth truly started to take off; since then, more people have moved into town and businesses have popped up all around downtown including restaurants such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Papa John's Pizza locations - making it one ofWisconsin's fastest growing communities! In addition to its impressive restaurant scene, Hudson has become well known for its Artisan Cheese Festival – an event that attracts local artists and foodies alike to taste cheese from around the world!
