These industries led to an increase in taxes and caused some residents to leave the city for other areas around Milwaukee or Chicago. However, since then, downtown Hartford has seen several new businesses open up and continue growing steadily despite massive redevelopment projects which have taken place nearby such as North Point Park and East High School (now Southpointe). Hartford is known for its annual “Festival on Elm” celebration which features music, art galleries, food trucks and vendor carts along Elm Street during April/May each year.
