The Greenfield Telescope Museum is a history museum located in Greenfield, Wisconsin that features exhibits about the history of scopes. The museum was founded in 1984 by Dr. Don Goss and Dr. Rick Kaminer. The museum offers guided tours every hour from 9am to 4pm from April through October, and 1pm to 3pm on November 1st and 2nd. Admission is free for everyone who visits the museum during those times. The Greenfield Telescope Museum is made up of three main parts: the Observatory, which contains an exhibit about the construction of the telescope; the Collection, which contains historical artifacts related to optics; and the Hall of Fame, which honors people associated with optics in general or Greenfield Telescope Museum specifically. The Observatory opened in 1984 as a part of the Milwaukee County Zoo. It was built as a $1 million project by DrsGoss&Kaminer with support from private donors including among others Ted Turner and his wife Jane Fonda. The Observatory was used for research into various fields such as astronomy, seismology, climate studies, and medical imaging until it went out of business in 2002 following allegations of financial irregularities involving some employees at the zoo groundskeeper company (Greenfieldshire) Ltd.. In 2003, it reopened as part of Milwaukee County’s reconstructed Zoo after being closed for several years due to budget cuts within county government..
