Greenfield is a town in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,796 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenfield-Wausau Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Greenfield" was given to the town by a group of settlers who had been driven out of their original towns in Marinette County by railroads and other businesses. The first permanent settler in what would become Greenfield arrived in 1855 and named it after his farm which he located near present day West Greenfield Avenue. In 1857, a post office was established at Greenfield with the name of New Berlin but it was renamed Grayford in 1861 because it had been taken from New Berlin by the Milwaukee & St Paul Railroad. In 1871, land for a town were acquired on the east side of Chicago River whereupon Greenfield was platted and named for its location on that tract as well as for desire to distance itself from other settlement areas on that bank. The first church service took place on April 6, 1872 when Reverend James Hickey preached from an old Methodist Meeting House located across the river at present day Foster Avenue. A store and blacksmith shop were built soon afterwards and groceries were brought into use when railroad transportation became available. By 1880, there were six shops and forty-six homes in operation; two banks operated; four schools taught school; three churches served as services center; two mills produced flour and cottonseed oil; three physicians practiced medicine within walking distance of each other; twentyfive farms produced hay or straw for livestock purposes; five hundred head of cattle grazed on county roadsides In 1892 a bridge over Chicago River opened which greatly helped improve transportation between Marinette County and eastern Indiana The 20th century saw growth with several new stores opening such as Jiffy Lube (1929), Kmart (1978), Sears (1987)and Sam’s Club (1996). Many small businesses closed during this time including one bakery which closed down due to poor health ratings by customers In 2000, Danbury Township merged into Marinette County resulting in much growth southward along I-94 including former industrial areas such as these becoming neighborhoods once again Since then things have slowly started to decline with many residents leaving both because they can't find work or because they don't like how things have changed since 2000 while others have chosen not to move due to environmental concerns

Greenfield, Wisconsin was founded in 1846 by fur traders and settlers. The town was named for the green fields that surrounded it. The first settler in Greenfield were John and Martha Brown. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Fox River. In 1847, they had two more children and decided to move to a better place so they could provide them with a good life. They started out by trading goods with other farmers around the area. In 1850, they moved into what is today known as the Old Town section of Greenfield. The Browns ran a grocery store and post office from their home until 1865 when it burned down. From then on, mail was delivered to Greenfield from Manitowoc County by wagon. In 1863, Greenfield became an incorporated town. The first mayor of Greenfield was George Wiggin who served for one year before he resigned due to ill health. From then until 1943, there was only one mayor per year serving four terms total-George Pabst (1943-1945), Byron Sheahan (1945-1949), Elmer Stutzman (1949-1953), and Franklin Jaffe (1953-1963). In 1901, United States Senator James Meckel introduced Hilda Smith as his running mate on the US ticket for election in Minnesota's 1st congressional district against incumbent Daniel Webster Jr.. After winning handily against Webster, Hilda became the first woman ever elected to Congress from Minnesota under state law at age 24 years old! On November 8th, 1903 she won her second term in Congress defeating Republican nominee John Fritchey 3294 votes to 2187; becoming America’s youngest female representative ever! At 26 years old she also became America’s youngest congresswoman EVER! During her time as speaker of the House of Representatives from 1933 – 1938 she never lost an argument or voted against any bill brought before her chamber… even though most congressmen did not have jurisdiction over agriculture back then! However during this time frame many members representing Wisconsin left congress because President Franklin D Roosevelt assigned them all new seats in his New Deal Cabinet which ultimately killed off most vestiges of patronage in Washington D C! Sheila Jackson La Follette would later succeed her as Speaker after losing renomination bid against Dick Rybicki on November 4th 1978 but would serve less than 2 years due to death within a few months after being inaugurated; ending much partisan gridlock like that experienced during Sheila Jackson La Follette’s tenure as Speaker
Greenfield was founded in 1824 by John Greenfield and his wife Eleonore. The town is located on a bend in the Racine River, east of Milwaukee. Greenfield became a city in 1898.
