In 1931–1932, during World War II as part of the effort to expand military production throughout Midwest United States., Greenfield produced weapons for the Allies under contract with major American companies such as Colt Coronet Company and Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Greenfield experienced some hard times during this time period; however, through sheer force of will and community activism both before and after World War II – including numerous drive-in theaters – the town bounced back to prosperity thanks to strong businessesmanship and civic spirit combined with an ever-growing sense of communal purpose among its citizens. Today’s vibrant community has emerged as one of Sheboygan County’s most established communities – testimonial to her tenacity over many decades when faced with seemingly insurmountable odds.
