Rosenwald built a summer home there and named it Rosenwald Castle after himself and his wife Eleanor Roosevelt. He donated the castle to the town of Greenfield in 1922 as part of its centennial celebration. The town built an appendage to Rosenwald Castle called Elmhurst which served as its municipal hall until 1975 when it became the town's library main branch

Greenfield is a town in the Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. Greenfield was platted in 1851 and named for John Greene, a fur trader. The first settler in Greenfield was Elisha Goodrich, who arrived on horseback in 1853. Goodrich built a log cabin and raised corn and beans on his farm until he died in 1857. His wife took over the farm and continued to run it until her death in 1865. In 1868, Michael Junker settled near the current site of Greenfield along with his brother-in-law Jacob Rohrbaugh. Junker worked as a blacksmith before moving to Greenfield to start his own business. He operated a sawmill and gristmill until he died in 1920. Rohrbaugh continued operating the mill until it burned down in 1929. The original town site consisted of only one block of land; it now includes all of Ozaukee County except for the unincorporated community of Lodi (which is located within Racine County). The first store opened in 1850 by Capten Fenton, who bought goods from Indian traders travelling through what is now Ozaukee County on their way to points northward.. In 1854, Fenton's son Augustus purchased another lot from Nicholas Wilkinson for $50 (). Augustus developed a small crop farm around this new location which he called "Greenfeld". After Augustus' death in 1865, his widow sold most of her property back to Nicholas Wilkinson for $100 (). This episode shows that early settlers were not afraid to take risks on their farms – they were willing to give up some land so that others could build homes and grow crops.. In 1870 Michael Dickey bought two more lots from Nicholas Wilkinson for $60 (). Dickey developed an agricultural enterprise which he called "Dickey's Prairie". After Dickey's death in 1904, his widow sold most of this property back again for $60 (). This episode also shows that early settlers were not afraid to take risks on their farms – they were willing to sell their properties if they thought they would be able to keep them going longterm
