Greendale is a town in the Annandale-based county of Kane, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 996 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The post office in Greendale was established in 1868 and discontinued operation in 1951. The first settler to arrive in what is now Greendale was John Pohl, who arrived on horseback from Milwaukee on November 15, 1847. Pohl erected a log cabin on his farmstead which he named "Greendale." He also built a small sawmill and a grist mill on his property; both operators were destroyed by fire in 1861. A store and blacksmith shop were also built near Greendale around this time. In 1865, Isaac Kapp bought land southeast of Greendale from John Pohl for $2 per acre (in present-day Green Bay). Kapp set out to make his new home there and began building what would become known as the "Kapp House." He began by cutting down some trees on his new property and then driving them into the ground with an oxen team to create a floorboards that would serve as foundation for his house. His wife Emma helped him build the first walls of the Kapp House using bricks they found close by. The first floor of today's Kapp House was completed in October 1866 when it became known as the "Kitchen". On November 8, 1886, Abraham Haas purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) northeast of Greendale from Samuel Baird for $10 per acre ($2 million at current prices). At that time, it was one of Wisconsin's most valuable agricultural lands because it had excellent soil quality and large trees available for harvesting. Haas developed much of this land into corn AND cattle farming; he also erected several buildings including a barn and two homes/campsites near present-day Wausau which are still extant today as part of Greendale Historical Park
