The history of optical accessories in Greendale, Wisconsin can be traced back to the late 1800s. At that time, there were few ways for people to enjoy their own privacy and receive messages through the use of a phone or other communication device. So, many businesses and individuals turned to photography as a way to send important messages without having to worry about public opinion or possible attention. One such business was The Camera Shop, which operated out of what is now known as the Pringles Building on West Seventh Street in Greendale. In 1907, The Camera Shop joined forces with photographer Julius Fairchild to create the first photojournalism studio in America. From then until the early 1960s, photographers and editors at newspapers and magazines used camera equipment and lenses from The Camera Shop for their work. This equipment included both manual and electronic cameras, along with all of the necessary tools and software needed to capture images that would be published online or printed in print media. Many of these images still exist today thanks to donations from former newspaper employees who Museum staff are able to access and preserve as part of our collection. In 1951, The Camera Shop closed its doors for good after over 130 years in business. However, it wasn't until 1984 that a new store opened up on West Sixth Street called TheCameraShop2K4 which continued sales into the 21st century! Today, TheCameraShop is still a source for quality photographic gear with an emphasis onClassic Photography services including digital conversion therapy!

In 1971, Dr. John Hofer founded J&J Scientific Corporation which manufactured high-quality optical equipment for scientific use such as astronomical telescopes and microscopes. The company continues today as JHOFER Optical Solutions Incorporated!

It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1871 by John Greendale and his wife Elizabeth Hargrave. Greendale became a city in 1976, but it declined in popularity after annexation by Milwaukee. In 2001, Greendale voters passed an referendum to secede from Milwaukee and become its own municipality with its own government and police department. The secession ordinance was repealed two years later when Greendale residents voted to remain within Milwaukee. As a small town, Greendale has limited resources; however, it does have a variety of cultural attractions which include art galleries, music festivals, and playswrights' workshops. The community also has a strong sense of community spirit which allows for open dialogue and collaboration between residents. There are multiple businesses in Greendale which contribute to its economy; these include knitters' dens, paper mills, and agricultural businesses. Despite these limitations, Greendale remains an important part of Milwaukee's fabric and culture
