The land that makes up Greendale was first settled in 1834 by John Fogg and his family. In 1854, a post office called Greendale was established on behalf of Prospect Township. In 1875, Greendale became part of Milwaukee County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2000,[2] there were 2,922 people residing in Greendale; 1,711 households out of which 36% had children underthe age of 18 living with them, 58% were married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30% were non-families. 24% of all households were made up of individuals and 10% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. The average household size was 2 per household; there were 1,553 families (53% married couples living together) out of which 35% had two children underthe ageof eighteen living with them; 50% were married couples without any children; 5%, or 0.05%, lived alone who did not have any unmarried friends or family members. The average family size was 3 per household; there were 2,971 families (86%) including all six members who lived formerly in another municipality within Milwaukee County as well as one member from outside Milwaukee County This figure does not include those residents who left Greendale for other reasons such as moving away from their village roots or because they changed their mind about returning after studying elsewhere

Greendale is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the seat of Greendale County. The population was 3,527 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. The first settler in Greendale was John Fenton, who arrived in 1835 from Manchester, England. He built a cabin on what is now East side Street in Greendale and named it Fenton's Grove after himself and his wife Hannah Fenton (the daughter of Nicholas Fenton, one of the original settlers). A post office called Greendale was established in 1836, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1846, John Whetstone settled near present-day West Side Street in Greendale and named his farm Whetstone's Prairie after himself and his wife Martha Whetstone (daughter of Amos Harned). By 1850, there were over 100 people living on Whetstone's Prairie alone. In 1861, Isaac Noyes moved to Greendale from nearby Racine with his family to evade religious persecution by Federal troops under General Winfield Scott during the American Civil War. At that time most Germans had fled to America due to political tensions between Prussia and Austria following World War I; however Isaac found replacement workers among many English-speaking residents who had also left Germany during the war. Noyes later served as mayor of Greendale from 1915 to 1917. His son George Noyes became governor of Wisconsin when he took office in 1959. On July 1st 1870 a group led by Jens Jensen set out for what would be their final attempt at colonization—this time via land speculation along what is now Interstate 94 northbound nearpresent-day White Earth Lake off Highway Eighty-sixth Avenue eastbound—but they failed to find any takers for their new landholding just outside present day Green Bay (now Racine). Two years later they again tried this route but this time met success when prospector Augustus Dearborn offered them 5% per acre for their land within present day Green Bay itself – an offer which Jensen accepted without any hesitation given that he thought it likely he would receive more money if he sold than if he didn't sale since there were other potential buyers out there who might have been interested had he refused。 Finally on August 10th 1872 they acquired title deeds from Deirdre Laddick for 640 acres northwest of Green Bay along modern day Highway 12 about two miles east of where she lived today before setting out once more for America’s Great Lakes region…….. Overcoming numerous obstacles including lack of support from either local authorities or other claimants they eventually reached civilization on November 5th 1872 located northeast corner milepost 231 ½ southwest latitude longitude -75 degrees 20 minutes west true north……………. much like earlier pioneers they erected log huts and started agriculture………………………………….. Despite initial failures they persisted through heavy rainstorms plus difficult travel conditions making it all the way back home safely………………….. Their persistence paid off as soon as potatoes started arriving back at their settlement early next year………………………………….. With potatoes growing shortages arose so settlers began cultivating maize which supplemented diet………………………………….. Eventually a school was built which helped teach children how to read and write………………………………………. Some people still live here today
