Greendale, Wisconsin is a small town in the Milwaukee County area of Wisconsin. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The history of Greendale goes back to 1836 when James Hutton bought land from the Pabst Brewing Company for $2,000. He built his first home there in 1840 and it remained his home until he sold it in 1865 to Isaac Sibley. Sibley donated the land for a school and church which were dedicated on November 3, 1871. The first students attended school at Greendale Schoolhouse until 1889 when they moved to Prairie View Schoolhouse which still stands today as one of Greendale's most significant landmarks. In 1896, Greendale became a municipality and voted to annex West Side Township so that it could have its own police department. The annexation was approved by referendum and incorporated as Greendale on January 1, 1897. In 1907, Waukesha County was created with its own government and Greendale lost its municipality status but continued to have an elected council system with three members who were also responsible for street cleaning and garbage collection among other tasks. On December 15, 1916, during World War I due to increased demand for munitions in EuropeGreeland found itself under attack by German bombersand had to call into service their military for two days while they constructed bomb shelters inside their homes which remain standing today! On October 30th 1932greeland became victims of another bombing when a bomb exploded in front of their high school killing 16 people including six Teachers! It wasn't until 1979 that Greendale officially regained its municipality status after years of petitioning by the community and vote by the county board! A new library was built on property adjacent to Main Street between 1998-2002 followed by a park located just east of Highways 54 & 56 in 2006-2008 which included soccer practice fieldsfor local children as well as an amphitheater that can accommodate up to 400 people! With all these recent enhancements along with many more planned over time greendale has quickly become one ofWI's most exciting communities – each year seeing new businesses open up shop while retaining much of what makes this population unique!

Greendale is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,157 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name comes from Greendale Township (now Greendale), which was first settled in 1839 by Danish immigrants. The village of Greendale was founded in 1857 and became a town in 1865. The post office at Greendale opened in 1859 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1911. The first school opening in Greendale took place on October 14, 1875 by Mrs. Margetts with twelve students attending under the charge of Miss Fenton (). The lumber industry played an important role during Greendale's early years. In 1907, the Wiscasset & Northern Railway came through town and began shipping logs to Green Bay from Greendale; this helped spur the growth of the local lumber industry. By 1912, there were over 100 sawmills operating in Greendale – one-seventh of all those operating within Dane County that year. Although there has been some decline in the local lumber industry since then,Greeland still has some impressive mills including Oneida Lumber Company (), known for their beautiful carved chests () made out of red oak and black walnut tree planks each about 20 feet long and weighing up to 50 pounds each; as well as Anderson Manufacturing Company (), which makes precision firearms parts (); among others). Additionally, many small businesses have continued to operate from what used to be mill townsites throughout downtown Milwaukee due to its ample transportation options available today including Amtrak’s “Wisconsin Rapids” line which stops just south of downtown at “Milwaukee Terminal 1″ (the old Northwestern Pacific Depot), making greenery easy access for workers who want to stroll around or take public transportation into downtown Milwaukee should they need any errands taken care of outside of their homes or workplace………Today much like when it first started out almost 260 years ago!
