In 1924 Republican George Romney won an upset victory against incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt as a member of Congress from Milwaukee; he had been running as an anti- Roosevelt candidate and campaigned throughout Wisconsin using what would come to be called "theRomney slogan: 'I am George Romney.' " In 1959, Green Bay voters passed a resolution urging then President John F Kennedy to visit that city during his election campaign due to its role as a center for business and innovation within America's industrial heartland[5]. He did not make it to Green Bay but visited nearby Racine during his campaign trail stop there on October 14th and 15th (a week before Election Day). The night before his inauguration he made another stop in Racine which again helped promote his administration’s economic programs[6].
