Green Bay, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the town of Green Bay, located on Lake Michigan within the greater Milwaukee metropolitan area. The population was 108,524 as of July 1, 2018,[1] making it the third-largest city in Wisconsin and one of the ten most populous cities in America.[2][3] The first European settler in what is now Green Bay was Jean Baptiste Sault who arrived there on September 15, 1762. He named his land Point Pelee after a small island he sighted while sailing downriver from Canada to Points Guard on the St. Lawrence River[4]. A few weeks later, Captain John Lawton discovered an abandoned French fort at Kettle Moraine and built Fort Dearborn for himself and his troops on August 29, 1763[5]: Green Bay became part of the United States by an act of Congress on March 3, 1815 under President James K. Polk[6]. The first post office was established at Green Bay on November 7th, 1836. At that time it had a population of 375 people; by 1907 it had grown to over 675 people:[7]: In 1912–1913 construction began on what would become Lambeau Field—the largest stadium in America when it opened its doors to the public on October 26th, 1913: Over $100 million has been spent renovating/upgrading Lambeau Field since its opening: The Packers have won 5 NFL Championships (Super Bowl III (1978), NFC Championship Game (1998), Super Bowl XXXI (2002), NFC Divisional Playoff Game (2011)) and 8 Conference Titles including 4 National Champions: North Dakota State University football coach Craig Bohl hired as interim head coach following Mike McCarthy’s dismissal; Kohl led Packer teams to back-to-back titles during his four seasons before being fired; former Packers QB Brett Favre declared bankruptcy days after retirement; and current Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was drafted second overall by Cleveland Browns with pick #8 in 2009
