The Packers are a professional American football team that play in Lambeau Field outside of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The first Europeans to visit what is now Green Bay were fur traders from Quebec in 1789–90 who named it "Nuage de la Trappe." They followed up with another group in 1792 and again in 1800; these groups may have been led by Pierre Lacouette or Jean-Baptiste Marquette, both Frenchmen living among the Algonquian people near present-day Menasha Park on Lake Superior's eastern shoreline. On July 26, 1803, United States President James K. Polk sent Lieutenant Colonel David Dixon to explore what becameWisconsin as part of his exploration of newly acquired territory following their purchase from France during the Louisiana Purchase Treaty (1803). Dixon found abandoned villages along Lake Michigan south of Milwaukee and laid out a town called "New Chicago" (now Chicago) on March 12, 1804; this was within today's boundaries of Green Bay proper but north adjacent to modern day Appleton Township which includes most parts of downtown Green Bay today. Dixon's party continued mapping areas for a new county until they reached GreenBay on August 13 when they laid claim to all present-day Brown County as well as portions of Dodge County east of Menasha Park (then known as Sheboygan County). In October 1804 General John Potter organized an expedition led by Captain Augustus Stiles overland from Fort Dearborn into what is now southeastern Wisconsin under command of Major General Anthony Wayne for military purposes only – he had no intention whatsoever of establishing more than a military post at Prairie du Chien – and discovered that there was much land still unclaimed after years worth exploring! These lands would become: On November 1, 1835 Pottersville was founded as the first permanent village located within present day Appleton Township when Isaac Sheboygan donated land near West Side Road and North Avenue to create a village square; this square remains one block wide today and has been popularly designated "Sheboygan Square". Pottersville would grow rapidly due to its location close enough to major rivers for transportation including riverboats stopping at its wharf upstream from today's Kossuth Dam spillway; boat traffic helped support local businesses ran by rowers/canoesists who fettered themselves together along busy streetscape thoroughfares such as North Avenue between Fifth Street NW and Seventh Street NE;Famous residents includePotterville man George Stephenson born December 5th 1795 died 1865), inventor Daniel Webster born May 10th 1800 died 1860)and Lucy Stone Born about 1830 Died about 1916). In 1846 General George Armstrong Custer led an attack on Fort Dearborn resulting in its surrender; this event helped solidify American control over what is now northwest Wisconsin and Minnesota. In 1862 Lieutenant Colonel Robert Eagan erected a battery on land nearpresent-day downtown Green Bay to protect shipping lanes up the Menominee River from possible French or Indian attack from Canada; this Battery #7 played an important role during the Union victory at Gettysburg when General Ulysses S Grant ordered his artillery to supportGeneral Philip Sheridan's infantry units against Wellesley Hood's Confederate forces who had attacked that day while under General Winfield Scott's command - a major contributing factor to Grant achieving such high casualties! In 1884 Algoma Steel Company built a steel plant adjacent to present-day downtown Green Bay which became one of North America’s largest steel producers until it closed operations in 1984!
