The Grafton, Wisconsin town of over 5,000 residents was founded in 1837 by David and Anna Linton. The Lintons were the first people to settle in the area and built a log cabin on their farmstead. By 1860, Grafton had a population of over 10 thousand people. In 1876, Grafton was renamed Milwaukee after County Judge Isaac Auerbach donated land to the town. In 1886, Grafton lost its status as an independent city when it amalgamated with Milwaukee. Today,Grafton is a small community located within the boundaries ofMilwaukee.
