Glendale is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,867 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Glendale is located in the town. The first European to visit Glendale was Captain George Vancouver on July 4, 1792. He and his ship, " Discovery ", anchored off the coast of what is now Glendale for two days before sailing eastward. On July 11, 1792, Vancouver named the spot "GlenLeod" after Scottish explorer James Gleniead who had explored that part of North America two years earlier. In 1834, John Fetterman founded Fetterman's Mills in what is now Glendale. At that time it was one of only a few Points of Sale in Douglas County and the only post office west of Milwaukee. In 1854 it became a village when it incorporated as a city under the name Glendale with a population of 2,500 people. That same year it received its first public water supply from Lake Michigan through an aqueduct built by John Beavers and others associated with his milling business which still supplies water to the village today. In 1916-17 there was an attempt by then Mayor Harry Sink to get approval from the state legislature for development near downtown which would have included raising property taxes if successful but failed due to lack of votes from both houses; however this event helped spur efforts to build new schools and provide additional services within downtown during that era including streetlights and sewers etc.. On November 6th 1920 an election took place for members on the board of trustees which resulted in Democrat Solomon Katz becoming sole trustee with Republican John LaFontaine serving as second trustee responsible for finance and operations until he retired in 1951 after more than forty years service followed by Katz’s widow Esther who served until her death on December 15th 1985 effective January 1st 1986 having been appointed unanimously previous year by Governor Gary Bauer In recent years much effort has been made by local businesses throughout downtown to maintain or improve shopwindows along Main Street east thereof giving residents some glimpse into what their fellow citizens are currently enjoying outside their doorsteps while also inspiring newcomers to learn more about their history both hereabouts as well as beyond!

The first settlers in Glendale, Wisconsin were James and Susannah Goodale. James was a farmer and Susannah was a domestic servant. In 1837, the Goodales founded the town of Glendale on the east side of the Waukesha River. The town flourished for many years until it was destroyed by a fire in 1885.
