Growth in Glendale continued through World War II when many businesses reopened after being closed during combat zones such as Europe or Japan. Afterward, growth slowed slightly until suburbanization began starting in the late 1960s with development near I-94 and Wisconsintown Road; this ultimately led to increased traffic congestion around downtown Glendale that began to be addressed by City Hall beginning in 1978.
