Glendale is a town in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,504 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Munster metropolitan area. Glendale is located on the Fox River and is adjacent to the cities of West Bend and Neenah. The first settler in Glendale was James Dickey who bought land from the Potawatomi Nation in 1836. Dickey built a log cabin and named it "Dodge City" after his friend, General William Dodge. A post office was established at Dodge City in 1841, and it remained in operation until 1959. In 1870, John Wirth donated land to the town for a municipal park which became known as "Wirth Park". The first school in Glendale was built by Mrs. Anna Lutz in 1872, and it served students up until 1956 when it was replaced by a new building that serves as Glendale High School today. In 1927, Glendale voters passed an ordinance authorizing the erection of a movie theater on property owned by Jens Nygaard which sits today between Main Street and Pearson Road near intersections with Interstate 94 and State Highway 158 (now US Highways 169/92). The first movie shown at this theater were "The Jazz Singer" and "Citizen Kane". In 1957, due to financial difficulties brought about by World War II's recession; Nygaard sold his interest in the theater chain to other investors including Harry Cohn who renamed it National Amusement Corporation (NACA). NACA leased space from Paramount Pictures Corporation (PVC) within their Hollywood studio lot for use as an independent film exhibitor before ever exhibiting films there commercially. This arrangement lasted until 1978 when Paramount merged with 20th Century Fox Film Corporation to create Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation (TWFC). With its own production facilities outside Los Angeles County where films could be made without having to go through TWFC's distribution network – subsidiary Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment would become one of Hollywood's most powerful businesses During its time as an independently-owned exhibitor NACA released such box office hits as Francis Ford Coppola's " Patton", Steven Spielberg's “Jaws”, Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho”and George Lucas’ “Star Wars” After TWFC merged with 21st CenturyFox Filmed Entertainment Limited Partnership (21CFILP) into Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., NACA continued operations under new ownership as part of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment until 2011 when all home video releases were discontinued along with all other aspects of their business including retail sales
