Germantown is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the eastern edge of the Town of Racine. The population was 9,857 at the 2010 census. Germantown is one of five towns in Racine County and it is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Racine metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Germantown were French traders who landed there in 1663. However, most development occurred along Wabash Avenue – which ran through downtown – which soon became a commercial thoroughfare with many small businesses lining it between State Street and Fourth Street (now Washington Avenue). When Interstate 94 was built in 1956 and bypassed downtown shopping centers such as Main & Shakopee Avenues (now I-94 tollway), much business went away from Wabash Avenue – including several large stores that closed down after they were unable to compete against prices offered at larger mall locations close by. There are still several small shops located on Wabash Avenue near State Street though; these include: Henni's Shephard's Hardware Store (since 1984), Big Joe's Pizza ($) and Target ($§>.) The last major store open on Wabash Avenue before it was shuttered was Dennison’s Department Store which occupied space from 1957 to 1978 when it merged with JCPenney $§>. However due to newer shopping trends towards enclosed malls withTarget stores throughout most of North America (and even outside!), Dennison’s closure did not have much significant impact on local retail landscape - instead, smaller independent merchants continued to thrive for years until their own chains took over much later. Today, main street still features several small businesses including: Creativebookstore ($) - a used bookstore/magazine shop/, Frank Scarpa's Pizzeria ($) - Italian restaurant serving up pizza/pasta nights/$$$$ - also serves breakfast ($$>), Millefeuille Bakery ($) - Belgian bakery with pastries/croissants/$£> - offers coffee ($>, tea/$£>) and pastries($>). Another popular spot for groceries and services is GVH Supermarket which opened up in 2006 across from The Cultural Center after being vacant since 2004 when Sears moved out en masse.. Additionally there are several small convenience stores: Pepsico Market ($) contains cigarettes/tobacco products/, Hoffman's Grocery ($) has candy bars/, JanSport Electronics $(%&%#@+)<=>(%,%), Ben & Jerry's Cookies $$$.

Germantown is a small town located in the Nicolet County of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 712 at the 2010 census. Germantown was founded in 1839 by John C. Nicol and his wife Eliza McGee as a logging camp on the edge of what is now Mount Pleasant Township. It became an agricultural village in 1859, when it received its first marketable crop from a grant from the federal government. In 1870, Germantown became part of the newly formed Racine metropolitan area and lost its autonomy until 1970. The post office closed in 1984 and the ZIP code for Germantown was 84534. Understandably, there is much to learn about Germantown’s past including its history as an agricultural village that grew up around logging camps on Mount Pleasant Township,racine’s role within metropolitan Milwaukee during the early 20th century, and more recent updates such as its annexation into Racine in 1970.
