During World War II, many local businesses contributed material to support military spending through donations or purchasesoute munitions from federal suppliers such as Winchester Ammunition Company (Winchester) which had a manufacturing plant located adjacent to 6th & State Streets in downtown Germantown where gun sights also thrived during that time period. It is located in the now-defunct Dane County on the west side of Milwaukee metropolitan area and was part of that area until it was annexed into Milwaukee in 1837. The first settler in what would become Germantown was Nicholas Nickols, who arrived from Russia in 1795. He named his land "Nicholas Nickols Township." Nicholas had two children with his first wife, Anna Maria: John and Catherine (Catherine became known as Catherine Earnest). John married Anna Maria's sister, Sarah Miles; Catherine married George Washington father-in-law Jabez Templeman. Two years after Nicholas Nickols' death, settlers moved into what would become Germantown from Hollandtown on the east side of Milwaukee: Peter Kahl founded a farm there in 1836 and named it Kahl Heights after himself and his brother Johann Friedrich Kahl (a cousin of NicholasNickols). In 1840, another immigrant, Solomon Pritzker bought land near Kahl Heights; he renamed it Pritzker Woods after his father-in-law Julius Pritzker Sr., an early investor in real estate development across the river in Chicago. In 1847, German immigrants Hans Weiser and Wilhelm Ruppert built a house on Wauwatosa Ridge Road northeast of present day Germantown High School; they called their home Weiser's Hill because they were based out of Berlin (then Prussia). In 1850–51 local school board member Michael Jenssen recommended naming a new high school for Germantown after Revolutionary War General Anthony Wayne because “the Indians have forgotten us” – but this idea never got off the ground. Instead, Jenssen suggested calling it Western Reserve Academy to reflect advances made by both Detroit Institute Of Technology (DIT) on one side and Northwestern University on the other during that time period which included increased enrollment at DIT due to industrialization throughout DuPage County including coalmining operations around White Lake outside Morrisville (). Simultaneously with Wayne's decision to move from Detroit to Baltimore for military service during World War II – germans began moving away from their homesickness towards opportunities available closer to friends or family back East – much like many Americans did when war came home later that decade - Ward High School opened its doors as well as numerous technical schools across suburban neighborhoods throughout Milwaukee (). By 1955, only 2% of all students at Western Reserve Academy were attending college while over 60% were working within 10 miles of campus.– thus giving rise to GHDL legend #1 about how technology keeps creating opportunity for young people throughout America!
