Germantown is a small, rural community located in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. Germantown is situated on the east side of Green Bay and forms part of the city of West Allis. Germantown was first settled in 1837 by German immigrants and their families who came overland from Germany via Holland. In 1840, a post office was established in what is now Germantown and it remained operational until 1872. The town was named for George Washington Township, where it lay until its annexation by West Allis in 1908. The first school in Germantown was built in 1838 and operated as a one-room schoolhouse until 1846 when a two-story frame school building was erected on land donated by Jonathan Dickinson. The present day high school, also known as Dickinson High School, opened on September 15, 1951 with grades 9 through 12 under construction following approval by the then-EducationCommissioner Homer Kiesler; however, due to lack of funding, onlygrades 7 through 10 were completed before closure in 1953 due to financial difficulties experienced during World War II which disrupted local agricultural production; accordingly, all grades were moved to new facilities adjacent to East Lake High School until 1957 when all grades were merged into one building designed by architectArthur Wessels which remains today as Dickinson High School (grades 11th through 12th). The first post office here was called "Petersburg" because most early settlers came from Petersburgh (now Petersburg) County, Virginia across the Ohio River. After being renamed "GermantOWN" upon incorporation intoWestAllis on August 17th 1907 (the merger having been approved by the government that same day), this post office continued operation until discontinued on November 30th 1975 due to changes made within that city's zoning code governing mail service operations within inner city neighborhoods such as those near Green Bay's central business district; accordingly, mail service for residents within these areas now comes via Dane County's Milwaukee area postal service instead. In 1914 an oil well became available just south of town along Mud Creek Road so began what would become an important source of revenue for local farmers and businesses including said oil company which still exists today as United Refining Company Incorporated - doing business as Mercurius Energy Corporation - although originally called United Oil & Gas Company after merged becoming Mercurius Energy Corporation following formation of United States Petroleum Corp.; nonetheless they continue to be headquartered here since 1990 despite Lorraine Kernen becoming CEO effective October 1st 1998 after Mercurius Energy Corporation successfully applied for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection less than two months prior thereto while continuing operations under another name(Lorraine Kernen had served previously as President & Chief Operating Officer). Today there are over 100 employees working atMercurius Energy Corporation with 2 million gallons/day processed at their refinery producing gasoline products other than diesel fuel providing transportation fuels directly to more than 175 thousand customers statewide plus retail sales activity totaling $5 billion annually .

Germantown is a village located in the town of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. Germantown was platted on July 4, 1837 by order of the territorial government. The first settler to arrive in what is now Germantown was Abraham Burtch. In 1851, John Wirth founded the city of Milwaukee and Germantown became part of that city. On November 5, 1854, a fire destroyed much of downtown Germantown and it has been said that this event may have helped spur the growth of Germantown today. On October 28, 1855, the first gas line for illumination arrived in Menomonee Falls when James Ewing connected with a pipeline from Milwaukee. That same year saw the founding of the Menomonee Falls Historical Society which still meets monthly to preserve local history and culture. In 1860-1861, three churches were built in what is now Germantown: First National Evangelical Lutheran Church (later known as ChristChurch), Second Presbyterian Church (later known as Our Lady Of Victories) and Third Methodist Episcopal Church (now known as Trinity United Methodist Church). With its large population and growing economy, men began construction on what would become GermantOWN High School in 1913-1914. However due to World War II GI recruiting shortages production halted until 1946-1947 so that students could serve their country during peacetime; however many staff members who served during WW2 are buried here including Superintendent Drury Hutton who played an important role in establishing German culture courses at UW-Milwaukee after returning home from war service The Village Museum opened its doors on February 10th 1990 inside Historic First Congregational PresbyterianChurch which also doubles as Village Hall where community meetings are held every month,. The museum features rotating exhibits about local history with an emphasis on agriculture and industry throughout Wisconsin’s History In 1951 portions of downtown were destroyed by a fire; this event likely inspired more development around corner then occurred before In September 2015 an east wing addition to current high school was dedicated with money raised through fundraising events
