The first store opened on August 15th, 1938 with two flavors: classic milk chocolate and mint jelly (later renamed peppermint chocolate). It operated until 1984 when it closed due to financial difficulties; however, it reopened under new management soon afterwards and continues to operate today as an iconoclastic retail store with unique products like lavender milk shake (named after Maurice Sendak's book Where The Wild Things Are) and raspberry milkshake available during happy hours only! Germantown is a town in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,859 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest municipality in Marinette County and the second-smallest municipality in Wisconsin after Racine. The name "Germantown" may be derived from German settlers who arrived in 1847, or from nearby Germantown Heights which served as a postsite for the US military during World War II. The first settler to arrive in what is now Germantown was John Doe on July 6, 1847. In 1849, another German settler named Friedrich Cramer built a cabin on speculation that he would find land where he could grow crops and sell products. However, no land was found and Cramer developed his business instead selling goods by wagon train through what is now Marshfield Township to farmers along the Kettle River corridor. He also opened a store at what is now downtown GermantOWN. In 1855, George Stephenson erected a sawmill on the confluence of the Whitewater and Kettle Rivers just east of present-day Germantown. This mill became one of the largest mills in Door County and helped to stimulate economic development around this time. Over time other businesses were established such as: an insurance company (1871), two grocery stores (1910), four shoe stores (1924), two restaurants (1930s), three bakeries (1940s) and two carpenters shops (1950s). During World War II, Germantown played host to various activities including: Headquarters for 8th Air Force's 3rd Bombardment Wing; Naval Supply Depot; Army Service Center; prisoner-of-war camps; and thousands of American soldiers who were housed there until their release or return home late in 1945 or early 1946. One important aspect of wartime life for many residents was living close to their jobs so they could provide support for their families during hard times when food stamps were not available or gasoline rationing existed. Following World War II, many residents moved away from GermantowntOWN due to changing social mores or because they found better opportunities elsewhere within Marinette County such as Racine or Appleton which had larger populations with similar job opportunities. Starting around 1960, however some people continued to live in GermANTOWN whilst working elsewhere in Marinette County including: software engineer David Ritchie who started work at Wabash Valley Airlines; truck driver Bob Urie who operated his own small truck dealership out of his garage near downtown; electrician Don Buhlinger who installed new wiring inside Government Services Building before moving into his own home later that year; plumber Wally Olson whose shop sat on Main Street across from Old Market Elementary until it closed down multiple times over due to lack of customers or competition over time.; glassblower Harry Weisman whose shop sat on South Third Street between Main & State Streets until it closed down multiple times over due to lack of customers or competition over time.; mail carrier Hilda Fowles who lived outside village limits but collected mail inside her house each day until she retired around 1985.; artists Robert Pohlman and Alana Goldsmith both worked intermittently out of their homes while continuing their art lessons/classes throughout the day outside despite having no income beyond paying bills each month.; teacher Marilyn Stroup taught fourth grade alongside her husband Richard Stroup during most days except for special occasions such as family funerals.- As mentioned earlier - many people left town following changes brought about by technological advances such as television which made life more comfortable outside village boundaries
