Germantown is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located in the Driftless Valley region of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. Germantown is part of the Green Bay, Wisconsin metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Germantown was George Washington Carver who arrived in 1847. He and his wife Harriet founded a grocery store on First Street in what is now Germantown. The town took its name from General James Armstrong’s home village near Harrogate, England which had been renamed Germantown following an American Revolutionary War victory there over British forces led by Cornwallis. In 1881, a post office was established at Germantown under the name Harperville after Captain John Harper who had fought with General Andrew Jackson's army during the Mexican-American War and also later served asWI State Treasurer from 1853 to 1861. In 1905, when WI became a federal district, Harperville became part of Milwaukee and continued to serve as its local post office until it was discontinued on March 15th 1924 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Ansel Evers (D). A small community called Cloverdale developed aroundmile east of downtown where farmers could sell their producedirectly to consumers without going through market traders or wholesalers. Cloverdale disappeared when railroad tracks were built through downtown in 1906 forcing many farmers out into open fields that are today known as neighborhoods such as Strawberry Hill and Olde English Village/Cloverdale Park

Germantown is a town in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,651 at the 2010 census. Germantown was founded in 1836 and was one of the first towns in what would become Milwaukee County. It is located on the east bank of the Fox River between Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. The first settlers to Germantown arrived from Denmark in 1836. They were followed by other Scandinavian immigrants over time. In 1840, a group of Germans founded a Lutheran church in Germantown. The town's name may be derived from German word "Germanshof" meaning "farmstead on the German side of the river." By 1850, most of Germantown's residents had come to America as part of waves of European immigrants that flooded into the country during the Great Lakes region industrialization craze. Many Germans also settled in Racine and Green Bay before migrating to eastern Wisconsin during this time period. In 1854, John Pohlman erected a log cabin on land he purchased near present-day Lake Fonthill for $22 worth of goods including pork chops, cheese balls and other items necessary for pioneer life outside their homes back then. He named his cabin Grosse Pointe (Big Point). Pohlman built additional cabins along with outbuildings until he had four settlements totaling about 150 people living there by 1860. The area around present-day Germantown became known as Dutch Settlement because many early settlers came from New Netherland (now Holland). Dutch Settlement ended when troops burned it down in 1775 during Lord Cornwallis' Invasion of America following her defeat at Yorktown which signaled American independence from Great Britain
