However, during this time period some key events happened which led to Franklin developing into an agricultural community: In 1916-17 local farmers formed what is now known as the Agricultural Society of Wisconsin (ASW) to help promote agriculture within Franklin County. This society helped develop efficient farming methods which have continued to be used today. In 1948-49 ASW organized a field trip to Cuba which highlighted how farming techniques had changed since Guernica had been bombed back in 1938 by Spanish forces
