Scope mounts have been a part of American warfare for as long as there have been firearms. For over two centuries, Americans have depended on the use of mounts to hold their firearms in place while they shoot. This Article will discuss the history of scope mounts in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and what current mount designs provide an advantage for shooters. The first rifles were developed in America during the colonial era and were used by Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in North America in 1624 and began to settle in what is now Wisconsin. In 1812, when war broke out between Great Britain and France over control of North America, Captain George Stephenson recruited 4 men from Ft.. Atkinson who volunteered to serve aboard HMS "Eagle" during her transit across Canada from Kingston to Montreal through Lake Superior. These brave sailors performed heroic feats by scaling walls along the way - an event which is still remembered today! After extensive repairs were made to "Eagle"s hull following her return journey across Canada's waters off Hudson Bay; she was finally recommissioned under Captains Robert McCloskey (1813-1814)and James Cook (1770-1774) with Lord Howe commanding her squadron off Methuen's Cape Breton Island on September 5th 1815 en route back home via Nova Scotia! Notwithstanding this illustrious distinction; "Eagle" ultimately lost her encounter with Cook at Hawaii She did however capture several Spanish ships including La Gallega which was recaptured by British forces after sailing into Mexican ports without warning Mexico City! This event marked one point where technological advances had a significant impact upon military operations ashore - not just within Great Britain but also France which saw similar vessels being employed against them both at sea AND ON Land! soon afterwards Captains David Dixon & John Byron sailed upriver from Sault Ste Marie towards Green Bay – having previously captured numerous French vessels raiding Turtle Point[8] – using riverboats & steamers tow’d behind them all Along side Lieutenants Richard Gridley & James Hutton… these naval officers then took possessionof many valuable cargoes OF GALLEGAS [9] Which they shipped back To England In triumph!!! The first Fort Atkinson expansion occurred in 1846 when the United States Army built a new post at the site. The fort was originally called "Fort Atkinson on the Menominee River" and it played an important role in American military history. In 1851, President James K. Polk ordered that the fort be renamed "Fort Atkinson in honor of General George Armstrong Custer." In 1862, Union general Ulysses S. Grant's army occupied Fort Atkinson and began construction of a new main defense line near the town. The new fort became known as "Fort Donelson" after Donelson, Tennessee, which was located just south of Fort Atkinson. After the Battle of Antietam in 1862, General Sherman's army crossed the Potomac River and invaded Maryland on October 17th,1863. On November 15th-16th, 1863, Sherman reached Fredericktown Heights (now Frederick) Virginia after crossing McCoy Ford near present day Manassas Junction Virginia and then marching through Gainesville Gap to reach Winchester Station on December 2nd. There he detached his forces to cross over Rappahannock River at Fredericksburg to start their march northward towards Washington D.C.. On January 3rd 1865 Sherman's army came within sight of Washington D.C., but stopped short due to wild weather conditions along the riverbank and marched into camp about 5 miles west of Georgetown Court House Maryland on January 6th 1865 where they winterized for their upcoming campaign against Johnston in North Carolina some two months later

Fort Atkinson is a small town in the western United States, lying on the bank of the Menominee River. It was founded in 1836 by General Winfield Scott and his troops as a military post on land acquired from the Potawatomi tribe. The community grew rapidly after it was incorporated as a village in 1855, and by 1871 it had a population of 2,500. In 1916 Fort Atkinson became the capital of Wisconness County, and has remained so since. The fort is now a museum open to the public.
