Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Fort Atkinson was founded by Captain James K. Marshall in 1847 as a military post on the east bank of the Fox River. The first post commander was Major John P. Maynard. In 1855, the fort became an arsenal and ammunition depot when it became part of the newly created United States Military District (MND). The armory continued to be used as such until 1959 when it closed due to budget cuts within MND. The history of Fort Atkinson began with Captain James K. Marshall's founding of a military post on the east bank of the Fox River in 1847. At that time there were no settlements near present-day Fort Atkinson and only rudimentary trading and travel routes connected these communities indirectly via canoe or watercraft across what is now Douglas County and into eastern Wisconsin Territory at that time. Only two years later, on January 15, 1849, Captain Marshall erected a small fortification at what is currently known as Post Office Park in downtown Fort Atkinson to protect his garrison from attack by hostile Sioux Indians who had recently displaced many residents of nearby villages during their winter hunting season.[1] By 1850, however, Indian hostilities against white settlers had increased markedly throughout Minnesota and Iowa where most people lived; consequently little effort was made to secure friendly natives as defenders against possible attacks from this far away location[2]. Most notable for its pioneering role in American arms procurement during the Mexican–American War,[3] Post Office Park would also become one of first U S Army posts west of Missouri after Mexico's cession following said conflict in1848.[4][5] Captain Marshall's fortifications served through various wars including both US civil war I (1860–65) which saw skirmishes between Union forces stationed at Post Office Park and Confederate troops entrenched along Stonington Lake[6][7][8] while also providing cover for wagon trains laden with supplies en route northward through Kansas during October 1861,[9][10], prior to being evacuated southward following Union victory over Confederate forces at Battle Of Gettysburg (December 12).[11][12],[13] Despite its close proximity to frontier warfare activities surrounding Dodge City,[14][15],[16], Fort Atkinson would remain unoccupied by either side during much regular civilian peacetime activity taking place within community limits; this included such social activities as dances held outdoors every Saturday evening around mid-July until late July or early August each year accompanied byprovided music by local choirs playing afternoon concerts outdoors provided shade under trees situated along Main Street corridor adjacent to riverbanks[17]; Likely due largely to lack thereof any active military presence garrisoned within community boundaries – other than occasional company officers assigned hereinafter – precluding potential conflicts ensuing should hostilities erupt outside Community confines; even so some sporadic reports emerged emanating from isolated individuals living near post office park indicating occasional rifle shots coming from vicinity but event never materialized culminating with reported theft incidents occurring within post office park precincts itself such as Theft Of Mail From Post Office Park - One Such Incident Reported On July 8th 1865 To Sheriff Atasca]), notwithstanding numerous advance warning notices/warnings received prior theretofrom both government authorities above(UAW Commanding General George Armstrong Custer commanding all UAW forces located west Of Dodge City And southwest Of Topeka))"; however no formal charges were ever filed resulting from such occurrences despite evidence presented thereby). A laser sight is typically an add-on device to most firearms, typically mounted on the barrel in order to give shooters more accuracy and range. The first laser sights were developed in the early 1980s by Dr. John Ziegler and Dr. Rick Crandall at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory. The lasers used for theseights were very unstable, so they were not practical for combat use until the early 1990s when Laser Sight Technologies Corporation (LST) was founded to develop reliable, stable lasers for use with laser riflesights. LST’s original design featured a blue LED as the eye-witnesslight source and was able to provide 10 degrees of elevation adjustment with zeroing ranges up to 20 yards. In 2000, Blue Eagle Precision Optics introduced their line of Holographic Laser Riflesights which utilized three high power red or green LEDs each providing 30 degrees of elevation adjustment with 0/5 MOA precision out at 50 yards or less. These sights became popular among modern marksmen due to their ease of use combined with their ability adjustable brightness level which gives them unmatched flexibility when it comes time to target acquisition from long distances away. In 2006, Aimpoint released their new EMAG Tactical Holographic Weapon Sight which utilizes four high power red or green LEDs each providing 270 degrees of elevation adjustments with +3/-3 MOA precision out at 300 yards or less using common Weaver mounts like those offered by MiltekUSA Inc.. This sight quickly became popular among modern marksmen due its superior features over earlier holographic designs such as those available from other manufacturers while still retaining compatibility with many older rifles including mil-spec guns like AR15 platforms! In 1966, Laser Target Acquisition Device (LTA) was developed which allowed Weapon Systems Officers to fire a laser at a target and measure how well it is hit. It was later revised to become the SwiftFire sniper rifle, which became operational with NATO in 2004.
