Fond Du Lac,Wisconsin is a small town in the central part of Wisconsin. It is located about 61 miles west of Milwaukee and about 52 miles east of Green Bay. The population was 8,471 at the 2010 census. The name Fond Du Lac is French for "The Dairy". Fond Du Lac was founded by John Henry Frary in 1836. He named it after his father's home in Normandy, France. In 1851, Frary donated land to build a school and store on the site of today's town hall. The first post office opened in 1857. In 1865, Frary donated land to build a new courthouse and jail. The first railroad station was built here in 1867. In 1870, Fond Du Lac became one of the towns in Racine County when it was created from portions of Racine and Waukesha counties. It remained an agricultural community until the 1930s when manufacturing began to increase here as well as other businesses such as furriers and lumber dealers. By 1970, however, agriculture had become the dominant industry again with some light manufacturing also occurring throughout these years (although many jobs have since been lost due to technological advances). Today Fond Du Lac has a diverse economy with many businesses active in health care services, information technology and food processing among others (the largest company being Henni Inc., which manufactures gas turbines). Many residents are employed by local businesses or government agencies as well; this gives FondDuLac its unique mixture of business activity and community involvement that makes it one of its most distinctive features.

Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 10,854 at the 2000 census and 12,948 at the 2010 census. Fond Du Lac is located in western Milwaukee County. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Fond Du Lac was founded by German colonists in 1834 as a fur-trading post on an island in Lake Michigan known as "Duchesne Island". The name was changed to Fond du Lac after American Revolutionary War General George Washington's army destroyed a French fort there on July 4, 1794. In 1837, the first white settlers arrived and built homes on what is now Main Street near the present day State Capitol building. A school was established in 1840, and a store opened in 1851. By 1860, there were 1,500 residents living in Fond du Lac with two churches and three schools.[2] In 1865, when Wisconsin became a state, Fond Du Lac became an incorporated town with land west of downtown that had been donated by Judge John Cavanaugh (1815-1900). The firstoroughly developed section of town occurred east of downtown between Superior Avenue and Green Bay Road; this area included most of what is now Wauwatosa Heights shopping mall and much of Old World Village residential development dating back to the turn of the century which can still be seen today around Superior Avenue near Walker Park[3]. The section north of downtown grew rapidly due to farming opportunities while sections south and west experienced less development because they were closer to railroads or other sources for goods transportation[4][5]. Development resumed eastward along Superior Avenue from Walker Park until it reached its current terminus at Wauwatosa Heights,[6] which has since become one of largest shopping malls in North America[7], home to over 100 stores including Sears Holdings Corporation's Kmart store as well as JCPenney Stores Inc.'s Sears & Co., Macy's Inc., Kohl's Corp., Nordstrom Rack & More and Jardine Mathews LLP LLP law firm headquarters building (now OneState Place Shopping Center).[8] In 1992–1994 local government reform resulted in creation of city government based out of FondDuLac with responsibility for all aspects governance including zoning regulation; public works; finance; parks/parks management; street maintenance; police services; waste disposal; social services such as welfare programs but no authority over schools or libraries.[9][10] On December 3rdresetember 8th 1997 City Council passed Resolution No.(97-02) designating Racine Waterfront Park off limits todevelopment where Wauwatosa Heights meets Racine County Line
