Fond Du Lac is a town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2000 census. Fond Du Lac is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The name "Fond Du Lac" means "pool of the whites." A post office called Fond du Lac was established in 1854, and remained in operation until it consolidated with other towns in 1956. The first permanent settler in what is now Fond Du Lac was David Hagedorn. He built a log cabin on the west side of the river near present day Isabella Street and named it Hagedorn's Fort. Hagedorn had come to this area from Michigan two years earlier and saw land that would be worth farming. In 1835, he married Sarah Jane Kapp and they started a family of six children: five boys and one girl. By 1840, David had an additional daughter born on his farm north of town: Anna Maria (later Anna). In 1846, Abram Beardsley came to this area from Illinois with his wife Rebecca (née Putnam) Beardsley and their three young children; Abram became white-smithing business owner hereabouts while Rebecca took care of the household things for him and their four Missouri-born children living at home during their stay. White settlement began primarily by traders; early settlers mostly were men seeking passage through Canada for agricultural goods or services opportunities downriver before reaching America proper via steamboats up the Mississippi River Valley – activities which generated some wealth but also much danger because most crossings were not without hazards either due to rapids or bandits who preyed upon travelers northward along that route as well as thosesouthwest into Minnesota Territory run by Governor John Richardson overland across country through Iowa Territory then Illinois Territory before finally reaching our shores at what is today known as Dodge City on November 15th, 1847 – thus beginning what has become known as “Wisconsin’s History!” Moses Chilton settled just east of present day Fond du Lac about 1840 where he erected a trading post serving both local Native Americans (Wabash Sioux) who hunted game for subsistence purposes as well as fur traders traveling upstream to purchase furs from them including Simon Bolivar Larkin whose expedition led to Ulysses S Grant becoming US President in 1884 following Abraham Lincoln’s assassination Kansas native James Halliday arrived around 1850+ leading to large scale cattle raising operations nearby soon followed by large grain acreage being developed thereabouts starting with flour mills being erected along streamside ditches close outcroppings resulting in Burdick & Company mill having its gristmill facility adjacent thereto circa 1865 thenceforth various other such establishments ensuing until present day when only one remaining production mill located locally Argus Elevator Mills Incorporation producing milled corn products under license from National Grain Corporation licensed premises adjoining said mill

Fond Du Lac was founded in 1854 by Alexander Miller and his family. The town grew rapidly after railroads arrived in the area in 1865 and 1868. In 1923, Fond Du Lac became the first community in Door County to adopt a municipal charter. The town has been served by the Village of Fond Du Lac since 1926. FOND DU LAC HISTORY The Town of Fond Du Lac was organized on July 24th 1854 by Alexander Miller with nineteen others as a result of an Act of Congress entitled "An act to establish a town within this State." This act created towns throughout America while also providing for government under one roof for all citizens living within that boundary line - something not yet seen in most towns until after World War II when municipalities were consolidated into larger cities or counties. The reason for organizing such large towns? With only about two miles (3 km) separating each household in those days there was no way for people to get together without having consequences on their social lives or economic well-being - something that would become much more prevalent during frontier times when people had little control over their environment or what resources they could access outside of their own homes and communities. Alexander Miller himself did not live long enough to see histown grow but it did thanks largely to his son John who took care of things from beginning to end starting with marketing and promotions until 1890 when he passed away leaving behind a great legacy which continues today - allowing residents total independence from city ordinances while still being able to enjoy all the amenities that make up city life including public transportation, shopping center options etc... It should be noted that John's father George also played an important role early on both financially and administratively moving forward local businesses and families along with creating many jobs during this time period before passing away himself age 82 years old in 1893 – making him one of few Elders remaining active agricultural pioneers who helped shape modern day FondDuLac! In 1923 village incorporation happened following unanimous vote by residents withinVillage Council as proposed by Mayor Harry Kapp (councilman at that time). At first everyone inside Village thought it would be just another cheap trick mayoral run because “nothing ever happens around here without HIS approval” but soon realized how valuable it really was going against bigger cities like Milwaukee or Chicago which were trying (and succeeding) to overrun their smaller counterparts with too much bureaucracy and millitaryism! We can thank Harry Kapp for setting things right back then! He understood that if we wanted ourowngovernment we needed OUR OWN PLACE TO STAND UP TO THE BIGGIES AND THAT WAS WHERE THE VILLAGE COUNCIL PLAYED A VERY IMPORTANT ROLE IN RESPECT TO TIME FRAMES AS WE NOW KNOW THEM!
